Lezione 24 · Tappa 2: Parole di tutti i giorni: pronomi, articoli, preposizioni
Preposizioni di movimento: to / at / in / into
PrincipiantePrepositions of movement: to / at / in / into
Forma e uso
go to work, arrive at / in, get into the car, out of the room — dire dove va qualcosa
1.Essere in un posto o andare in un posto
At / in dicono dove qualcuno si trova (stato in luogo). To dice dove qualcuno va (moto a luogo), dopo i verbi di movimento come go, come, walk, drive, fly, travel, move, return.
| Stato in luogo: at / in | Moto a luogo: to | |
|---|---|---|
| Lavoro | I'm at work. | I go to work by bus. |
| Città | She lives in Hue. | She moved to Hue last year. |
| Scuola | The kids are at school. | The kids walk to school. |

In italiano usiamo “a” o “in” sia per lo stato in luogo sia per il moto a luogo (sono a scuola / vado a scuola), quindi è facile dire “I go at work”. Ogni volta che ti sposti verso un posto, usa to: go to work, go to the market, go back to my hometown.
2.Home, here, there: senza to
Dopo un verbo di movimento, home non vuole to: go home, come home, get home, walk home. Lo stesso vale per go there, come here, go abroad, go downstairs. Ma la casa di una persona precisa vuole comunque to: go to Lan's house. E stare a casa si dice at home.
I'm tired. Let's go home.
Sono stanco. Andiamo a casa. (non: go to home)

Stay at home if you feel sick.
Se non ti senti bene, resta a casa. (stare lì: at home)
3.Arrive in / at e get to
Arrive non vuole to. Usa arrive in + città o paese, e arrive at + un edificio o un luogo come un aeroporto, una stazione, un albergo o una festa. Get to (= raggiungere, arrivare a) vuole to, tranne get home. Reach va direttamente prima del luogo, senza preposizione.
| Verbo | + città, paese | + edificio, luogo |
|---|---|---|
| arrive | arrive in Hanoi / in Japan | arrive at the station / at the hotel |
| get | get to Hanoi | get to the station |
| reach (senza preposizione) | reach Hanoi | reach the station |

Siamo arrivati a Hue poco dopo mezzanotte.

4.Into e out of
Into = movimento da fuori a dentro; out of = movimento da dentro a fuori. In di solito indica la posizione (sei già dentro).

Dopo put, jump, get, fall si usa spesso anche in con il significato di “into”: sono corretti entrambi: Put the milk in / into the fridge. Ma dopo i verbi di posizione come be, live, sit, stay si usa solo in: The milk is in the fridge.
5.Salire e scendere dai mezzi
| Mezzo | Salire | Scendere |
|---|---|---|
| car, taxi (piccoli: ti abbassi per entrare) | get in / get into | get out of |
| bus, train, plane, ship | get on | get off |
| motorbike, bike, horse | get on | get off |

L'inglese sceglie la preposizione in base al tipo di mezzo: in quelli piccoli in cui ti infili (car, taxi) → in / out of; in quelli grandi in cui puoi camminare, o in quelli su cui stai seduto sopra (bus, train, motorbike) → on / off. Lo stesso vale per dire dove sei: in the car, on the bus.
