Lição 24 · Etapa 2: Palavras do dia a dia: pronomes, artigos, preposições
Preposições de movimento: to / at / in / into
IniciantePrepositions of movement: to / at / in / into
Forma e uso
go to work, arrive at / in, get into the car, out of the room — dizer para onde algo vai
1.Estar num lugar ou ir para um lugar
At / in dizem onde alguém está (posição). To diz para onde alguém vai (destino) — depois de verbos de movimento como go, come, walk, drive, fly, travel, move, return.
| Posição: at / in | Movimento: to | |
|---|---|---|
| Trabalho | I'm at work. | I go to work by bus. |
| Cidade | She lives in Hue. | She moved to Hue last year. |
| Escola | The kids are at school. | The kids walk to school. |
| Evento | We were at a wedding. | We went to a wedding. |

No Brasil é comum dizer “vou no mercado”, e isso leva a erros como “I go at work” ou “I go in the market”. Sempre que você se move em direção a um lugar, use to: go to work, go to the market, go back to my hometown.
2.Home, here, there — sem to
Depois de um verbo de movimento, home não leva to: go home, come home, get home, walk home. O mesmo vale para go there, come here, go abroad, go downstairs. Mas a casa de uma pessoa específica continua precisando de to: go to Lan's house. E estar lá é at home.
I'm tired. Let's go home.
Estou cansado. Vamos para casa. (não: go to home)
What time did you get home last night?
A que horas você chegou em casa ontem à noite?

Meu primo quer ir estudar no exterior.
Stay at home if you feel sick.
Fique em casa se estiver se sentindo mal. (estar lá: at home)
3.Arrive in / at e get to
Arrive não leva to. Use arrive in + cidade ou país, e arrive at + um prédio ou um lugar como aeroporto, estação, hotel ou festa. Get to (= chegar a) leva to, menos em get home. Reach vem direto antes do lugar, sem preposição.
| Verbo | + cidade, país | + prédio, lugar |
|---|---|---|
| arrive | arrive in Hanoi / in Japan | arrive at the station / at the hotel |
| get | get to Hanoi | get to the station |
| reach (sem preposição) | reach Hanoi | reach the station |
We arrived in Hue just after midnight.
Chegamos a Hue logo depois da meia-noite.
What time does the train arrive at Hanoi station?
A que horas o trem chega à estação de Hanói?
How do I get to the night market from here?
Como eu chego à feira noturna daqui?
Call me when you get home.

4.Into e out of
Into = movimento de fora para dentro; out of = movimento de dentro para fora. In geralmente indica posição (já está dentro).

Ela entrou no quarto e acendeu a luz.

As crianças pularam na piscina.

Todo mundo saiu correndo do prédio quando o alarme tocou.
Depois de put, jump, get, fall, também é comum usar in com o sentido de “into” — as duas formas estão certas: Put the milk in / into the fridge. Mas depois de verbos de posição como be, live, sit, stay, use só in: The milk is in the fridge.
5.Entrar e sair de veículos
| Veículo | Entrar / subir | Sair / descer |
|---|---|---|
| car, taxi (pequenos — você se abaixa para entrar) | get in / get into | get out of |
| bus, train, plane, ship | get on | get off |
| motorbike, bike, horse | get on | get off |

O inglês escolhe a preposição pelo tipo de veículo: nos pequenos, em que você entra se abaixando (car, taxi) → in / out of; nos grandes, onde dá para andar lá dentro, ou naqueles em que você senta em cima (bus, train, motorbike) → on / off. O mesmo vale para estar dentro deles: in the car, on the bus.
