Leçon 23 · Étape 2: Mots du quotidien : pronoms, articles, prépositions

Prépositions de lieu : in / on / at

Débutant

Prepositions of place: in / on / at

Forme et emploi

in the box, on the wall, at the door, next to, between, opposite — dire où se trouve quelque chose

1.In, on, at — trois idées de base

PrépositionIdéeExemples
inà l'intérieur d'un espace délimité : une boîte, une pièce, un sac, une ville, un paysin the box, in the kitchen, in my bag, in Hanoi, in Vietnam

  • I'll wait for you at the gate.

    Je t'attendrai au portail.

  • My brother lives in Da Nang.

2.Expressions courantes

inonat
in the sky, in the seaon the left, on the rightat home, at work, at school
in a photo, in the mirroron the ground floor, on the third floorat the top / at the bottom of the page

  • Write your name at the top of the form.

Écris ton nom en haut du formulaire.

Être chez soi, c'est at home — sans the, et pas in home. Pour y aller, on dit go home ; voir la leçon « Prépositions de mouvement : to / at / in / into ».

3.In ou at : villes et bâtiments

Villes et pays → toujours in : in Hue, in Japan. Chez quelqu'un : at Lan's (house), at my grandma's.

  • I'm at the bank. I'll call you back.

Je suis à la banque. Je te rappelle.

  • It's really cold in the cinema, so bring a jacket.
