Story 9.
2
The Monkeys and the Fish.
3
It began to rain in the rich and fertile valley.
4
The rain came pounding down and did not stop for more than fifteen days.
5
The rivers and the lakes were swollen and all the animals headed to the mountains seeking safety.
6
The monkeys were not as worried as the other animals,
7
for they had good brains and could easily make their way uphill to safety if they need to.
8
For now, they were perched high in the trees overlooking the flooded lands.
9
One monkey noticed fish swimming in the water, Swimming and leaping and having a great time.
10
Fish, you know, love water, and they welcomed the floods with pleasure.
11
In fact, it made them quite happy.
12
And that was why they were leaping out of the water.
13
The monkey said to his friends, Look there.
14
What are those strange creatures doing?
15
Can you see them in the water?
16
They appear to be in danger.
17
His friends looked too, and they all agreed with him.
18
Perhaps we should go and save them, offered one monkey.
19
After all, we are the smartest in the jungle.
20
Everyone agreed.
21
So the monkeys approached the edge of the flood waters and began to catch the fish and bring them safely to land.
22
The fish were difficult to catch.
23
One monkey even commented
24
that it seemed a shame these animals without legs did not appreciate what the good monkeys were doing for them.
25
Soon enough, all the fish were caught and piled and on land.
26
They lay there motionless.
27
Not a move from them at all, observed a monkey.
28
See, we were right to save them, said a wise monkey.
29
They were tired, and now they are resting.
30
Surely they will sooner wake up and thank us for our efforts.
31
And with that, the monkeys headed to the hills to see what else they could do.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
