IntermédioWord order: verb + object, place, time; frequency adverbs
Forma e uso
I like coffee very much; we went to Hue last year; she always / often / never…
1.Verbo + objeto ficam juntos
O verbo e o objeto normalmente ficam juntos — não coloque very much, well, every day… entre eles.
| Sujeito | Verbo | Objeto | Complemento |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | like | coffee | very much. |
| Mai | plays | the piano | very well. |
| We | watched | a film | last night. |
| Did you | lock | the door | this morning? |
I like coffee very much.
Eu gosto muito de café. (não: I like very much coffee)
She speaks English very well.
Ela fala inglês muito bem. (não: speaks very well English)
I read the news every morning.
Eu leio as notícias toda manhã.
Em português dizemos “gosto muito de café”, mas em inglês very não vai antes de um verbo: “I very like it” está errado. Diga I really like it, I like it very much ou I love it.
| Sujeito | Verbo (+ objeto) | Lugar | Tempo |
|---|---|---|---|
| We | went | to Hue | last year. |
| My mum | walks | to work | every morning. |
| They | took the kids | to the zoo | on Sunday. |
| I've | lived | in this flat | for three years. |
We went to Da Nang last summer.
(lugar → tempo)
My family moved to Hanoi in 2018.
Minha família se mudou para Hanói em 2018.
Last year, we went to Hue.
She sang beautifully at the party last night.
Mas normalmente não o coloque entre o verbo e o objeto ou o lugar: diga I went to Hue last year, e não “I went last year to Hue”.
3.Advérbios no meio da frase
Alguns advérbios curtos costumam ficar no meio da frase, junto do verbo: os advérbios de frequência (always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never) e também also, already, still, just, even, probably, really. A posição depende do verbo:
| O verbo | Onde fica o advérbio | Exemplo |
|---|---|---|
| Um verbo comum | antes do verbo | My mum always walks to work. |
| be (am / is / are / was / were) | depois de be | Minh is always at the gym on Mondays. |
| Auxiliar ou modal + verbo | depois do primeiro auxiliar | We have already eaten. / I can never find my keys. |
| Negativa com don't / doesn't / didn't | depois de don't / doesn't / didn't | I don't usually eat breakfast. |
- Antes de have to: I always have to get up early.
- Probably vem antes de um auxiliar negativo: I probably won't come. (I'll probably not come também é possível, mas não “I won't probably come”.)
- Sometimes e usually também podem abrir a frase: Sometimes I work from home.
- All e both seguem a mesma regra: We all love pho. My sisters are both nurses.
Have you ever been to Sa Pa?
Lan often drinks green tea in the afternoon.
A Lan costuma tomar chá verde à tarde.
My brother is never on time.
Meu irmão nunca chega na hora.
I speak English, and I can also speak a little French.
We have already booked the tickets.
A gente já reservou os ingressos.
My sisters are both nurses.
Minhas irmãs são as duas enfermeiras.
Never já é negativo, então vai com um verbo afirmativo: I never eat meat — e não “I don't never eat”.
4.Erros comuns
I very like this song.I really like this song. / I like this song very much.
very não vai antes de um verbo.
She speaks very well English. She speaks English very well.
O verbo e o objeto ficam juntos.
We go usually to the market on Sundays. We usually go to the market on Sundays.
He drinks every morning coffee. He drinks coffee every morning.
Primeiro o objeto, depois o tempo.
They arrived last night at the hotel. They arrived at the hotel last night.
Normalmente o lugar vem antes do tempo.
I have always to get up early.I always have to get up early.
O advérbio vem antes de have to.
