Lección 17 · Etapa 2: Palabras de uso diario: pronombres, artículos, preposiciones
This / that / these / those, one / ones
PrincipianteForma y uso
this book, those shoes, the blue one — señalar cosas cercanas y lejanas sin repetir el sustantivo
1.This / that / these / those
|---|---|---|
| Singular / incontable | this | that |
| Plural | these | those |
Pueden ir delante de un sustantivo (this bag) o solos (This is heavy).
This bag is really heavy.
Esta bolsa pesa muchísimo.
Look at those clouds! It's going to rain.
¡Mira esas nubes! Va a llover.
These are my parents.
Estos son mis padres.
Is that your car over there?
Lo mismo con that /ðæt/ y those /ðəʊz/.
Mum, this is my friend Hoa.
Mamá, te presento a mi amiga Hoa.
Hello, this is Minh from the dental clinic.
Hola, soy Minh, de la clínica dental.
2. Tiempo: this para el presente o el futuro cercano (this morning, this week), that para un momento del pasado (that day, at that time)
I'm really busy this week.
Esta semana estoy muy ocupado.
I still remember that day.

¿Pedimos pizza? — ¡Buena idea!

I don't like the red shirt. I prefer the blue one.
No me gusta la camisa roja. Prefiero la azul.
These shoes are too small. Do you have any bigger ones?

Which one do you want? — That one, please.

- Un adjetivo no puede sustituir solo a un sustantivo (a diferencia de “la azul” en español): a new one (no a new), the big ones.
- this one / that one son muy comunes. En plural basta con these / those; these ones / those ones también se oyen al hablar, sobre todo en inglés británico.
- one/ones solo sustituyen a sustantivos contables.
4.¿One o it?
a new one / one = cualquier cosa del mismo tipo. it / them = justo esa cosa que mencionaste.
I lost my umbrella, so I bought a new one.
(otro paraguas)
I lost my umbrella, but I found it the next day.
