Lição 17 · Etapa 2: Palavras do dia a dia: pronomes, artigos, preposições
This / that / these / those, one / ones
InicianteForma e uso
this book, those shoes, the blue one — apontar coisas perto e longe sem repetir o substantivo
1.This / that / these / those
| Perto (here) | Longe (there) | |
|---|---|---|
| Singular / incontável | this | that |
| Plural | these | those |
Elas podem vir antes de um substantivo (this bag) ou sozinhas (This is heavy).
This bag is really heavy.
Esta bolsa é muito pesada.
Look at those clouds! It's going to rain.
Olha aquelas nuvens! Vai chover.
These are my parents.
Estes são os meus pais.
Is that your car over there?
Aquele ali é o seu carro?
Atenção aos sons: this /ðɪs/ tem vogal curta e termina em /s/; these /ðiːz/ tem vogal longa e termina em /z/. O mesmo vale para that /ðæt/ e those /ðəʊz/.
Mum, this is my friend Hoa.
Mãe, esta é a minha amiga Hoa.
Hello, this is Minh from the dental clinic.
Alô, aqui é o Minh, da clínica odontológica.
2. Tempo: this para o presente ou o futuro próximo (this morning, this week), that para um momento no passado (that day, at that time)
I'm really busy this week.
Estou muito ocupado esta semana.
I still remember that day.
Ainda me lembro daquele dia.

Vamos pedir pizza. — Ótima ideia!
Thanks for the lift. That was really kind of you.
I don't like the red shirt. I prefer the blue one.
Não gosto da camisa vermelha. Prefiro a azul.
These shoes are too small. Do you have any bigger ones?
Estes sapatos estão pequenos demais. Vocês têm maiores?
Which one do you want? — That one, please.
Qual você quer? — Aquele ali, por favor.
My phone is really old. I need a new one.
- this one / that one são muito comuns. No plural, basta these / those; these ones / those ones também são comuns na fala, principalmente no inglês britânico.
4.One ou it?
a new one / one = qualquer coisa do mesmo tipo. it / them = exatamente aquela coisa que você mencionou.
I lost my umbrella, so I bought a new one.
Perdi meu guarda-chuva, então comprei um novo. (outro guarda-chuva)
I lost my umbrella, but I found it the next day.
Perdi meu guarda-chuva, mas o encontrei no dia seguinte. (o mesmo guarda-chuva)
