Lição 16 · Etapa 2: Palavras do dia a dia: pronomes, artigos, preposições
Pronomes reflexivos
InicianteReflexive pronouns
Forma e uso
myself, yourself, themselves, by myself, each other — a mesma pessoa que o sujeito
1.As formas
| Pronome | Reflexivo |
|---|---|
| I | myself |
| you (uma pessoa) | yourself |
| you (mais de uma) | yourselves |
| he | himself |
| she | herself |
| it | itself |
| we | ourselves |
| they | themselves |
Repare: myself, yourself, herself, ourselves se formam a partir de my / your / her / our, mas himself e themselves se formam a partir de him / them.
2.Quando usar
1. O sujeito e o objeto são a mesma pessoa
I cut myself while I was cooking.
Eu me cortei enquanto cozinhava.
Lan looked at herself in the mirror.
A Lan se olhou no espelho.
Minh blamed himself for the accident.
O Minh se culpou pelo acidente. (o Minh culpou o próprio Minh)
Minh blamed him for the accident.
O Minh o culpou pelo acidente. (him = outra pessoa)

The manager herself came to say sorry.
A própria gerente veio pedir desculpas.
3.By myself, on my own
by myself / by yourself… e on my own / on your own… significam sozinho ou sem ajuda de ninguém. As duas formas querem dizer a mesma coisa.

Meu avô mora sozinho no interior.

Depois de by, use a forma com -self: by myself (e não by me).
4.Themselves ou each other?
Lan and Mai looked at themselves in the mirror.
A Lan e a Mai se olharam no espelho. (cada uma olhou para si mesma)
Lan and Mai looked at each other.
A Lan e a Mai se olharam. (a Lan olhou para a Mai, e a Mai para a Lan)

5.Quando não usar o reflexivo
- Depois de feel, relax, concentrate, meet normalmente não se usa -self, mesmo que em português se diga “sentir-se”, “concentrar-se”: I feel great (e não I feel myself great).
- Com rotinas diárias como wash, shave, dress, o -self geralmente fica de fora: I got dressed and left. Só acrescente para destacar o esforço (My little son can dress himself now).
- Depois de uma preposição de lugar, use a forma objeto normal: She put her bag next to her (e não next to herself).
Sit down and relax.
Sente-se e relaxe. (não: relax yourself)
