I pronomi riflessivi
PrincipianteReflexive pronouns
Forma e uso
myself, yourself, themselves, by myself, each other — la stessa persona del soggetto
| Pronome | Riflessivo |
|---|---|
| I | myself |
| you (una persona) | yourself |
| you (più persone) | yourselves |
| he | himself |
| she | herself |
| it | itself |
| we | ourselves |
| they | themselves |
Nota: myself, yourself, herself, ourselves si basano su my / your / her / our, mentre himself e themselves si basano su him / them.
2.Quando si usano
I cut myself while I was cooking.
Mi sono tagliato mentre cucinavo.
Lan looked at herself in the mirror.
Lan si è guardata allo specchio.
Minh blamed himself for the accident.
Minh si è incolpato dell'incidente. (Minh ha incolpato Minh)
Minh blamed him for the accident.
Minh ha incolpato lui dell'incidente. (him = un'altra persona)
2. Alcune espressioni comuni: enjoy yourself (divertirsi), help yourself (servirsi da soli), make yourself at home (fare come se si fosse a casa propria), introduce yourself (presentarsi), behave yourself (comportarsi bene)
We really enjoyed ourselves in Da Lat.
Ci siamo divertiti un sacco a Da Lat.
Please help yourselves to some fruit.
Servitevi pure la frutta.

Did you make this cake yourself?
Questa torta l'hai fatta tu?
The manager herself came to say sorry.
È venuta la direttrice in persona a scusarsi.
3.By myself, on my own
by myself / by yourself… e on my own / on your own… significano da solo oppure senza l'aiuto di nessuno.
My grandpa lives by himself in the countryside.
Mio nonno vive da solo in campagna.
Can you finish your homework by yourself?
Riesci a finire i compiti da solo?
I like travelling on my own.
Dopo by usa la forma in -self: by myself (non by me).
4.Themselves o each other?
themselves / ourselves = ognuno compie l'azione su se stesso. each other = ognuno compie l'azione sull'altro.
Lan and Mai looked at themselves in the mirror.
Lan and Mai looked at each other.
Lan e Mai si sono guardate. (Lan ha guardato Mai, Mai ha guardato Lan)
My parents love each other very much.
Si aggiunge solo per sottolineare lo sforzo (My little son can dress himself now).
- Dopo una preposizione di luogo si usa il normale pronome complemento: She put her bag next to her (non next to herself).
Sit down and relax.
Siediti e rilassati. (non: relax yourself)
Let's meet outside the cinema at seven.
Vediamoci davanti al cinema alle sette. (non: meet ourselves)
