Lezione 15 · Tappa 2: Parole di tutti i giorni: pronomi, articoli, preposizioni
Pronomi e possessivi: I / me / my / mine
PrincipiantePronouns and possessives: I / me / my / mine
Forma e uso
I–me–my–mine, Lan's, a friend of mine, my own — chi fa qualcosa e di chi è
|---|---|---|---|
| I | me | my | mine |
| you | you | your | yours |
| he | him | his | his |
| she | her | her | hers |
| it | it | its | — (quasi mai usato) |
| we | us | our | ours |
| they | them | their | theirs |
Trucco per ricordarle: quasi tutte le forme dell'ultima colonna sono semplicemente la colonna 3 + -s: your → yours, her → hers, our → ours, their → theirs. Le eccezioni sono my → mine e his, che resta uguale.
2.Soggetto o complemento: I o me?
I pronomi soggetto (I, he, she, we, they) vengono prima del verbo: sono loro a compiere l'azione. I pronomi complemento (me, him, her, us, them) vengono dopo il verbo oppure dopo una preposizione (for, with, to, at, about…).
She loves him, but he doesn't love her.
Lei lo ama, ma lui non ama lei.
Can you help me with this box?
Mi aiuti con questa scatola?
This present is for you.
Questo regalo è per te.
We're going to the beach. Why don't you come with us?
Andiamo al mare. Perché non vieni con noi?
Who's there? — It's me.
Chi è? — Sono io. (nell'inglese di tutti i giorni qui si usa me, non It's I)
Quando due persone sono unite da and, vale la stessa regola: I come soggetto, me come complemento.
Nam and I play badminton on Sundays.
Io e Nam giochiamo a badminton la domenica. (soggetto → I)
Mum bought ice cream for my brother and me.
(dopo la preposizione for → me)
Non sai se usare I o me? Togli l'altra persona e prova: “Mum bought ice cream for me” ✓ — nessuno dice “for I”, quindi “for my brother and me” è giusto. Nel parlato informale molti madrelingua dicono “Me and Nam played…”, ma per iscritto e nel parlato formale usa Nam and I.
3.My o mine?
my, your, his, her, its, our, their vengono sempre prima di un sostantivo. mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs stanno da soli e sostituiscono tutto il gruppo “my + sostantivo”.
This is my phone. = This phone is mine.
Questo è il mio telefono. = Questo telefono è mio.
Is this your umbrella or hers?
Our garden is small, but theirs is huge.
The cat is licking its paw.
Il gatto si sta leccando la zampa.
- his / her dipende dal possessore, non dalla cosa posseduta: Lan and her brother (Lan è una donna → her), Minh and his sister (Minh è un uomo → his).
- its = suo/sua (di una cosa o di un animale); it's = it is / it has. The dog wagged its tail. / It's raining.
- Non mettere the o a prima di my/mine: my book (non the my book), anche se in italiano diciamo “il mio libro”.
4.Nomi e sostantivi: Lan's
(da non confondere con Who's = who is).
This is Lan's room.
Questa è la camera di Lan.
My parents' house is in Hue.
Whose umbrella is this? — It's Minh's.
Di chi è questo ombrello? — È di Minh.
Who's that man next to your dad?
Chi è quell'uomo accanto a tuo padre? (Who's = Who is)
Per sapere quando usare 's e quando usare of (the name of the song), vedi la lezione “-'s o of”.
5.A friend of mine, my own
a / an + sostantivo + of mine / yours / hers / Lan's… significa “uno dei miei / dei tuoi… (amici, cugini…)”. Non si può dire “a my friend” né “a friend of me”.
Tuan is an old friend of mine.
Tuan è un mio vecchio amico.
I met a cousin of yours at the wedding.
Al matrimonio ho conosciuto un tuo cugino.
my own, your own, his own… vuol dire che una cosa appartiene solo a quella persona: non è condivisa né presa in prestito. own viene sempre dopo un possessivo.
I finally have my own room.
Finalmente ho una camera tutta mia.
She wants to start her own business.
Vuole aprire un'attività tutta sua.
Bring your own water bottle.
Porta la tua borraccia.
In inglese il possessore viene prima del sostantivo: my friend (non “the friend of me”). Per dire “un mio amico”, cioè “uno dei miei amici”, usa a friend of mine: con mine, non me.
6.Errori comuni
