Lezione 17 · Tappa 2: Parole di tutti i giorni: pronomi, articoli, preposizioni
This / that / these / those, one / ones
PrincipianteForma e uso
this book, those shoes, the blue one — indicare cose vicine e lontane senza ripetere il nome
1.This / that / these / those
Queste quattro parole indicano persone o cose.
| Vicino (here) | Lontano (there) | |
|---|---|---|
| Singolare / non numerabile | this | that |
| Plurale | these | those |
Possono stare prima di un sostantivo (this bag) oppure da sole (This is heavy).
This bag is really heavy.
Questa borsa è davvero pesante.
Look at those clouds! It's going to rain.
Guarda quelle nuvole! Sta per piovere.
These are my parents.
Questi sono i miei genitori.
Is that your car over there?
Quella laggiù è la tua macchina?
Attenzione ai suoni: this /ðɪs/ ha una vocale breve e finisce in /s/; these /ðiːz/ ha una vocale lunga e finisce in /z/. Lo stesso vale per that /ðæt/ e those /ðəʊz/.
Mum, this is my friend Hoa.
Mamma, questa è la mia amica Hoa.
Hello, this is Minh from the dental clinic.
Pronto, sono Minh dello studio dentistico.
2. Il tempo: this per il presente o il futuro vicino (this morning, this week), that per un momento del passato (that day, at that time)
I'm really busy this week.
Questa settimana sono davvero impegnato.
I still remember that day.
Let's order pizza. — That's a great idea!
Ordiniamo una pizza? — Ottima idea!
Thanks for the lift. That was really kind of you.
I don't like the red shirt. I prefer the blue one.
La camicia rossa non mi piace. Preferisco quella blu.
These shoes are too small. Do you have any bigger ones?
Queste scarpe sono troppo piccole. Ne avete di più grandi?
Which one do you want? — That one, please.
Quale vuoi? — Quello lì, per favore.
My phone is really old. I need a new one.
- this one / that one sono molto comuni. Al plurale bastano these / those; anche these ones / those ones sono frequenti nel parlato, soprattutto nell'inglese britannico.
- one/ones sostituiscono solo sostantivi numerabili.
4.One o it?
a new one / one = una qualsiasi cosa dello stesso tipo. it / them = proprio quella cosa che hai nominato.
I lost my umbrella, so I bought a new one.
Ho perso l'ombrello, quindi ne ho comprato uno nuovo. (un altro ombrello)
I lost my umbrella, but I found it the next day.
