「too … to」/「enough to」
初級“Too … to” / “enough to”
|---|---|---|
| too + 形容詞/副詞 (+ to 不定詞) | 許容範囲を超えていて、できない | This coffee is too hot to drink. |
| 形容詞/副詞 + enough (+ to 不定詞) | 必要なだけある | She's old enough to vote. |
| not + 形容詞/副詞 + enough (+ to 不定詞) | 必要な量に足りない | I'm not tall enough to reach the shelf. |
| enough + 名詞 (+ to 不定詞) | 必要なだけの量のもの | We don't have enough money to buy a car. |
| too much / too many + 名詞 | 望むより多すぎる | There are too many people here. |
誰がするのかを言うには、to 不定詞の前に for + 目的格 を置きます:too heavy for me to carry。
The box was too heavy for me to carry.
Is the water warm enough to swim in?
位置に注意:enough は形容詞や副詞の後ろ(old enough、fast enough)、でも名詞の前(enough money、enough time)です。
I'm too tired to cook tonight.
I got up too late to catch the bus.
2. not … enough:
My son is only fifteen, so he isn't old enough to drive.
He didn't run fast enough to catch the bus.
3. enough:
She's old enough to decide for herself.
Is the room big enough for 30 people?
4. 名詞と使う:enough / too much / too many — enough は単独でも使えます:I've had enough.
We don't have enough time to see everything today.
I drank too much coffee this morning.
There are too many tourists here in summer.
No more rice for me — I've had enough, thanks.
3.too、very、so … that のどれ?
|---|---|---|
| very hot | とても熱いが、それでも可能 | The tea is very hot, but I can drink it. |
| too hot | 熱すぎてできない | The tea is too hot to drink. |
| so hot (that) … | 熱い、そしてその結果はこう | The tea was so hot (that) I burned my tongue. |
too を強めたり弱めたりするには、much too / far too や a bit / a little too を使います — 形容詞の前に too much は使いません。
These jeans are much too small for me now.
It's a bit too expensive to eat there every day.
This is so good!(You're too kind のような決まり文句は例外です。)
The tea is too hot to drink.
(to drink it とは言わない)
The water was too cold to swim in.
too / enough のあとは to 不定詞を使います — -ing 形や for + -ing ではありません。
It's too dangerous to swim in this river.
My daughter is too young to go to school.

enough of は the / my / them…
