“Too … to” / “enough to”
too + คุณศัพท์ + to กริยา, คุณศัพท์ + enough + to กริยา — มากเกินไปหรือพอที่จะทำ
|---|---|---|
| too + adj/adv (+ to + กริยา) | มากเกินไป จนทำไม่ได้ | This coffee is too hot to drink. |
| adj/adv + enough (+ to + กริยา) | มากพอเท่าที่ต้องการ | She's old enough to vote. |
| not + adj/adv + enough (+ to + กริยา) | ไม่พอ น้อยกว่าที่ต้องการ | I'm not tall enough to reach the shelf. |
| enough + คำนาม (+ to + กริยา) | ปริมาณของสิ่งที่ต้องการ | We don't have enough money to buy a car. |
| too much / too many + คำนาม | มากกว่าที่ต้องการ | There are too many people here. |
ถ้าจะบอกว่าใครเป็นผู้ทำ ให้เติม for + กรรม หน้า to + กริยา: too heavy for me to carry
The box was too heavy for me to carry.
Is the water warm enough to swim in?
ระวังตำแหน่ง: enough วางหลังคำคุณศัพท์หรือคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ (old enough, fast enough) แต่วางหน้าคำนาม (enough money, enough time)
I'm too tired to cook tonight.
I got up too late to catch the bus.
2. not … enough:

He didn't run fast enough to catch the bus.

Is the room big enough for 30 people?
4. ใช้กับคำนาม: enough / too much / too many — enough ใช้เดี่ยว ๆ ได้ด้วย: I've had enough

I drank too much coffee this morning.

|---|---|---|

| too hot | ร้อนเกินกว่าจะดื่มได้ | The tea is too hot to drink. |
| so hot (that) … | The tea was so hot (that) I burned my tongue. |
ถ้าจะทำให้ too หนักขึ้นหรือเบาลง ให้ใช้ much too / far too หรือ a bit / a little too — ไม่ใช่ too much หน้าคำคุณศัพท์

It's a bit too expensive to eat there every day.
Too มักมีความหมายในแง่ลบ — มากเกินกว่าที่ดี ถ้าจะชม ให้ใช้ so หรือ really: This is so good! (สำนวนตายตัวอย่าง You're too kind เป็นข้อยกเว้น)
The tea is too hot to drink.
ชาร้อนเกินกว่าจะดื่มได้ (ไม่ใช่: to drink it)
The water was too cold to swim in.
ถ้าประโยคขึ้นต้นด้วย It (ประธานที่ไม่มีความหมาย) ให้คงกรรมไว้ หลัง too / enough ใช้ to + กริยา — ไม่ใช่ -ing หรือ for + -ing
