IntermédioForma e uso
on time = sem atraso, in time = cedo o bastante; at the end of = a última parte, in the end = no fim
1.On time e in time
on time = no horário marcado, de acordo com a tabela de horários ou com o combinado — sem atraso. É comum com trens, ônibus, reuniões, aulas e prazos. O contrário é late.
The train left on time, at 8:00 exactly.
Please be on time tomorrow. The meeting starts at nine.
Por favor, chegue na hora amanhã. A reunião começa às nove.

in time = a tempo, cedo o bastante para fazer algo ou antes que algo aconteça. Duas estruturas comuns: in time for + substantivo e in time to + verbo na forma base. O contrário é too late.
We got to the cinema in time for the start of the film.
Will the package arrive in time for Tet?

| on time | in time | |
|---|---|---|
| Sentido | no horário marcado | a tempo, cedo o bastante |
| Contrário | late | too late |
| Estruturas comuns | be / start / arrive / leave on time | in time for + substantivo · in time to + verbo |
| Ênfase | right on time (exatamente no horário marcado) | just in time (bem em cima da hora) |
→ on time. Pergunte “Foi cedo o bastante para fazer algo?” → in time.
2.Just in time, in good time, in time = com o tempo
- just in time = bem em cima da hora; um instante depois teria sido tarde demais.
- in good time (principalmente britânico) = com antecedência, com tempo de sobra.
- in time sozinho também pode significar com o tempo, depois de um tempo — nada a ver com horário.
- Nenhuma dessas expressões leva artigo: não se diz “on the time” nem “in the time” com esses sentidos.
The ambulance arrived just in time.
A ambulância chegou bem na hora.
We left early and got to the airport in good time.
It hurts now, but in time you'll forget about it.
3.At the end e in the end
at the end (of something) = na parte final de um período, de um evento ou de um lugar. Normalmente leva of: at the end of the month / the film / the class / the street.
We pay the rent at the end of the month.
A gente paga o aluguel no fim do mês.
Everyone cried at the end of the film.
Todo mundo chorou no final do filme.
Our house is at the end of the street.

We couldn't decide where to go, so in the end we stayed at home.

Se vier of depois, quase certamente é at: at the end of the film, e não “in the end of the film”. In the end fica sozinho e significa “no fim das contas”.
4.Beginning, end, at last, finally
| Expressão | Sentido | Exemplo |
|---|---|---|
| at the beginning of … | a primeira parte de algo | at the beginning of May |

| at the end of … | a última parte de algo | at the end of the year |
| in the end | no fim das contas, como resultado | In the end, we took a taxi. |
| at last | finalmente, depois de muita espera (com alívio) | At last! The rain has stopped. |
I'd like to thank my parents. |
| at the end of the day | (expressão idiomática) pensando bem, considerando tudo | At the end of the day, it's your choice. |
In the beginning enfatiza “no começo era assim, depois mudou”, como at first. At the beginning of + um momento ou uma coisa específica significa simplesmente a primeira parte dela.
In the beginning, living alone was hard, but now I love it.
