Let's talk about celebrities and role models.

Why are young people so fascinated by celebrities?

Ha, I'm probably guilty of that myself!

I think fame represents a kind of escapism.

Celebrities seem to lead glamorous, carefree lives.

And for a bored teenager, that's utterly intoxicating!

Are celebrities good role models, generally speaking?

Hmm, it really depends on the celebrity...

Some use their platform to champion worthwhile causes.

Others, frankly, are just famous for being famous!

Could you give me an example of a positive one?

Oh, Marcus Rashford springs to mind straight away!

He campaigned for free school meals during the pandemic.

And he actually forced the government to change its policy!

That's an excellent, specific example.

Should celebrities be held to higher moral standards?

Um, that's a tough one,

but on balance, I'd say yes.

Influence comes with responsibility, whether they like it or not.

Isn't that a little unfair on them, though?

Perhaps a bit, I'll admit.

Nobody signs up to be a moral compass.

But they do reap enormous rewards from public attention.

Fair enough. That's a well-balanced answer.
