Form & Gebrauch

Shall we…? Why don't we…? How about -ing? — vorschlagen, was man tun könnte

MusterDanach folgtBeispiel
Let's …GrundformLet's eat out tonight.
Let's not …GrundformLet's not tell Mum yet.
Shall we …?GrundformShall we sit by the window?
Why don't we / you …?GrundformWhy don't we ask Lan?
Why not …?Grundform (ohne Subjekt)Why not try the other shop?
How about / What about …?-ing-Form oder ein NomenHow about going to Da Lat? · What about Saturday?
We could …GrundformWe could take the train.

How about / What about enden auf die Präposition about, deshalb bekommt ein Verb danach -ing: How about going…? (nicht How about go…?). Alle anderen Muster nehmen die Grundform, ohne to.

2.Wann du sie benutzt

1. Vorschlagen, etwas gemeinsam zu tun — Let's…, Shall we…?, Why don't we…?, How about…?

  • It's so hot. Let's go for a swim.

Es ist so heiß. Lass uns schwimmen gehen.

  • Shall we take a break? I'm exhausted.

Wollen wir eine Pause machen? Ich bin völlig erschöpft.

  • Why don't we cook at home tonight?

2. Vorschlagen, was jemand anderes tun könnte — Why don't you…?, Why not…?, You could…

  • You look tired. Why don't you lie down for a bit?

  • If the shirt is too big, why not change it?

  • You could ask your teacher for help.

Du könntest deine Lehrerin um Hilfe bitten.

3. Um Vorschläge bitten — What / Where / When shall we…?

  • What shall we do this weekend?

    Was machen wir dieses Wochenende?

  • Where shall we meet? — How about the café near the station?

4. Eine Möglichkeit ins Spiel bringen — How about / What about + Nomen oder Pronomen

  • I can't do Friday. What about Sunday?

Freitag kann ich nicht. Wie wäre es mit Sonntag?

  • I'd like a pizza. How about you?

Shall we …?fragt, was die anderen denken, höflich; im britischen Englisch sehr häufig. Amerikaner sagen öfter Should we…? oder Do you want to…?
Why don't we / you …?sanft und freundlich, beim Sprechen sehr häufig
How about / What about …?locker — bringt eine Idee ins Gespräch
We could … / Maybe we could …am sanftesten und am wenigsten drängend
  • Let's go, shall we?

  • Maybe we could leave a bit earlier to avoid the traffic.

ZustimmenGood idea! · Sounds great. · Sure, why not? · Yes, let's.
Höflich ablehnenI'd rather not. · I'm not sure about that. · Maybe another time. · Sorry, I can't today.
Etwas anderes vorschlagenHow about … instead? · Why don't we … instead?
  • Shall we get a taxi? — Yes, let's. It's getting late.

Sollen wir ein Taxi nehmen? — Ja, machen wir. Es wird schon spät.

  • Let's watch a horror film. — Hmm, I'd rather not. How about a comedy instead?

  • Minh suggested going to the night market.

  • I suggest we leave before the rain starts.

  • The doctor suggested that I drink more water.

(nicht: suggested me to drink)

6.Typische Fehler

  • How about go to the cinema?

How about going to the cinema?

    Nach about steht -ing.

  • Why don't we going to the night market?

Why don't we go to the night market?

    Why don't we + Grundform.

  • Shall we to start now?

    Shall we start now?

    Nach shall kein to.

  • Let's to eat out tonight.

    Let's eat out tonight.

    Let's + Grundform, ohne to.

  • Why not to take a taxi?

    Why not take a taxi?

Why not + Grundform, ohne to.

  • She suggested me to call the hotel.

She suggested (that) I call the hotel.

Nach suggest folgt nicht Person + to-Infinitiv.
