การชักชวนและเสนอแนะ

ภาษาอังกฤษมีหลายรูปแบบสำหรับการเสนอว่าจะทำอะไร สิ่งสำคัญคือต้องจำให้ได้ว่าแต่ละรูปแบบตามด้วยกริยารูปไหน

💡How about / What about ลงท้ายด้วยคำบุพบท about ดังนั้นกริยาที่ตามมาต้องเติม -ing: How about going…? (ไม่ใช่ How about go…?) ส่วนรูปแบบอื่นทั้งหมดใช้กริยารูปเดิม ไม่มี to

1. ชวนทำอะไรด้วยกัน — Let's…, Shall we…?, Why don't we…?, How about…?

• It's so hot. Let's go for a swim.

  ร้อนจังเลย ไปว่ายน้ำกันเถอะ

• Shall we take a break? I'm exhausted.

  พักกันหน่อยไหม ฉันเหนื่อยมาก

• Why don't we cook at home tonight?

  คืนนี้เราทำอาหารกินที่บ้านกันดีไหม

2. แนะนำว่าคนอื่นควรทำอะไร — Why don't you…?, Why not…?, You could…

• You look tired. Why don't you lie down for a bit?

  คุณดูเหนื่อยนะ ลองนอนพักสักหน่อยไหม

• If the shirt is too big, why not change it?

  ถ้าเสื้อตัวใหญ่ไป ทำไมไม่ลองเอาไปเปลี่ยนล่ะ

• You could ask your teacher for help.

  คุณลองขอให้ครูช่วยก็ได้นะ

3. ขอคำแนะนำ — What / Where / When shall we…?

• What shall we do this weekend?

  สุดสัปดาห์นี้เราจะทำอะไรกันดี

• Where shall we meet? — How about the café near the station?

  เราจะเจอกันที่ไหนดี — ร้านกาแฟใกล้สถานีเป็นไง

4. เสนอตัวเลือก — How about / What about + คำนามหรือสรรพนาม

• I can't do Friday. What about Sunday?

  วันศุกร์ฉันไม่ว่าง วันอาทิตย์ล่ะ

• I'd like a pizza. How about you?

  ฉันอยากกินพิซซ่า แล้วคุณล่ะ

💡Why don't you…? อาจเป็นคำถามจริง ๆ หรือเป็นการแนะนำก็ได้ — ต้องดูจากบริบทและน้ำเสียง “Why don't you eat meat?” อาจเป็นการถามเหตุผล ส่วน “Why don't you take a break?” เป็นการแนะนำ ผู้ฟังไม่ต้องอธิบายอะไร

รูปแบบเหล่านี้ความหมายใกล้เคียงกัน แต่บางแบบฟังตรงกว่าแบบอื่น:

• Let's go, shall we?

  ไปกันเถอะ ดีไหม (question tag หลัง Let's คือ shall we)

• Maybe we could leave a bit earlier to avoid the traffic.

  บางทีเราน่าจะออกเร็วขึ้นหน่อยเพื่อเลี่ยงรถติด

• Shall we get a taxi? — Yes, let's. It's getting late.

  เรียกแท็กซี่กันไหม — เอาสิ ดึกแล้ว

• Let's watch a horror film. — Hmm, I'd rather not. How about a comedy instead?

  ดูหนังผีกันเถอะ — อืม ไม่ดีกว่า ดูหนังตลกแทนดีไหม

💡ตอบคำชักชวนแค่ “No.” ฟังดูห้วน การเติมเหตุผลสั้น ๆ หรือเสนอไอเดียอื่น (Maybe another time — I'm busy tonight.) ฟังเป็นธรรมชาติและสุภาพกว่ามาก

ถ้าจะเล่าว่าใครเสนออะไร หรือเสนอแนะแบบเป็นทางการขึ้น ให้ใช้กริยา suggest ซึ่งตามด้วย -ing หรือ (that) + อนุประโยค — ไม่ใช่ suggest + คน + to-infinitive

• Minh suggested going to the night market.

  มินห์เสนอให้ไปตลาดกลางคืน

• I suggest we leave before the rain starts.

  ผมเสนอว่าเราควรออกเดินทางก่อนฝนตก

• The doctor suggested that I drink more water.

  หมอแนะนำให้ฉันดื่มน้ำมากขึ้น (ไม่ใช่: suggested me to drink)

• ✗How about go to the cinema?

  ✓How about going to the cinema?

  หลัง about ใช้ -ing

• ✗Why don't we going to the night market?

  ✓Why don't we go to the night market?

  Why don't we + กริยารูปเดิม

• ✗Shall we to start now?

• ✗Let's to eat out tonight.

  Let's + กริยารูปเดิม ไม่มี to
