Comparar con “as … as”
PrincipianteComparing with “as … as”
Forma y uso
as + adj + as — decir que dos cosas son iguales
1.Forma
Usa as + adjetivo/adverbio + as para decir que dos cosas son iguales (= “tan … como”). Añade not y significa menos.
| Estructura | Ejemplo | |
|---|---|---|
| Igualdad | as + adj./adv. + as | My brother is as tall as my dad now. |
| Inferioridad | not as + adj./adv. + as | Da Lat isn't as hot as Hanoi. |
| Pregunta | Is … as + adj. + as …? | Is Da Nang as expensive as Hanoi? |
| Con sustantivos | as much / as many + sustantivo + as | I don't have as much free time as you. |
Hacen falta dos as: as tall as my dad. La segunda palabra no es than ni like.
2.Cuándo se usa
Your English is as good as mine.
Hue is just as beautiful as Hoi An.
2. Menos: not as … as, una forma más suave y natural de decir less … than. En negativas a veces verás not so … as, con el mismo significado.
This coffee isn't as strong as the one at home.
The test wasn't as difficult as I expected.
Thao sings as beautifully as her mother.
Thao canta tan bien como su madre.
I can't run as fast as you.
No puedo correr tan rápido como tú.
4. as much / as many: comparar cantidades: much + sustantivo incontable, many + sustantivo en plural
I don't earn as much as my brother.
No gano tanto como mi hermano.
There aren't as many rice fields as before.
Ya no hay tantos arrozales como antes.
5. as … as possible / as … as I can: en el mayor grado posible
Please send me the report as soon as possible.
I ran as fast as I could.
Corrí lo más rápido que pude.
3.¿Qué tan cerca? just, nearly, twice…
| Palabra antes de as | Significado | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| just | exactamente igual | The cheap phone is just as good as the expensive one. |
| nearly / almost | muy cerca, pero un poco menos | Mai is nearly as tall as Lan. |
| not quite | un poco menos | The second film isn't quite as good as the first. |
| not nearly | mucho menos | The flight wasn't nearly as bumpy as I feared. |
| twice / three times / half | dos veces, tres veces, la mitad | Our new flat is twice as big as the old one. |
A partir de tres veces, también puedes decir three times bigger than / three times more expensive than; es muy frecuente. Pero para dos veces, usa twice as … as (twice bigger les suena mal a la mayoría de los hablantes).
The bus ticket costs half as much as the train ticket.
The new bridge is three times as wide as the old one.
4.The same as; ¿as me o as I am?
Para decir que dos cosas son idénticas, usa the same (+ sustantivo) as, no like.
Your phone is the same as mine.
Tu teléfono es igual que el mío.
Hoa was born in the same year as me.
Hoa nació el mismo año que yo.
Después del segundo as, funciona como después de than: usa me, him, her (al hablar) o sujeto + auxiliar (I am, she does).
He isn't as patient as me. = He isn't as patient as I am.
Él no es tan paciente como yo.
Today I'm not as busy as I was yesterday.
Hoy no estoy tan ocupado como ayer. (no: as I'm yesterday)
Usa the same as para cosas idénticas (My bag is the same as yours) y like para cosas parecidas (She looks like her mum). No los mezcles en “the same like”.
5.Errores comunes
