Comparar com “as … as”
InicianteComparing with “as … as”
Forma e uso
Acrescente not e o sentido passa a ser menos.
| Estrutura | Exemplo | |
|---|---|---|
| Igual | as + adj/adv + as | My brother is as tall as my dad now. |
| Menos | not as + adj/adv + as | Da Lat isn't as hot as Hanoi. |
| Pergunta | Is … as + adj + as …? | Is Da Nang as expensive as Hanoi? |
| Com substantivos | as much / as many + substantivo + as | I don't have as much free time as you. |
1. Duas coisas são iguais — acrescente just para reforçar “exatamente igual”
Your English is as good as mine.
Seu inglês é tão bom quanto o meu.
Hue is just as beautiful as Hoi An.
Hue é tão bonita quanto Hoi An.
2. Menos: not as … as — uma forma mais suave e mais natural de dizer less … than. Nas negativas, às vezes você vai ver not so … as, com o mesmo sentido.
This coffee isn't as strong as the one at home.
The test wasn't as difficult as I expected.
Thao sings as beautifully as her mother.
A Thao canta tão bem quanto a mãe.
I can't run as fast as you.
Não consigo correr tão rápido quanto você.
4. as much / as many — comparar quantidades: much + substantivo incontável, many + substantivo no plural
I don't earn as much as my brother.
Não ganho tanto quanto meu irmão.
There aren't as many rice fields as before.
Não há tantos arrozais quanto antes.
5. as … as possible / as … as I can — no grau mais alto possível
Please send me the report as soon as possible.
Por favor, me mande o relatório o quanto antes.
I ran as fast as I could.
Corri o mais rápido que pude.
3.Quão perto? just, nearly, twice…
| Palavra antes de as | Significado | Exemplo |
|---|---|---|
| just | exatamente igual | The cheap phone is just as good as the expensive one. |
| not quite | um pouco menos | The second film isn't quite as good as the first. |
| not nearly | muito menos | The flight wasn't nearly as bumpy as I feared. |
| twice / three times / half | duas vezes, três vezes, metade | Our new flat is twice as big as the old one. |
A partir de três vezes, você também pode dizer three times bigger than / three times more expensive than — isso é muito comum.
The bus ticket costs half as much as the train ticket.
The new bridge is three times as wide as the old one.
4.The same as; as me ou as I am?
Para dizer que duas coisas são idênticas, use the same (+ substantivo) as — e não like.
Your phone is the same as mine.
Seu celular é igual ao meu.
Hoa was born in the same year as me.
Depois do segundo as, funciona como depois de than: use me, him, her (fala) ou sujeito + verbo auxiliar (I am, she does). O verbo auxiliar precisa estar no tempo certo.
He isn't as patient as me. = He isn't as patient as I am.
Ele não é tão paciente quanto eu.
Today I'm not as busy as I was yesterday.
Hoje não estou tão ocupado quanto estava ontem. (não: as I'm yesterday)
Use the same as para coisas idênticas (My bag is the same as yours) e like para coisas parecidas (She looks like her mum). Não misture os dois em “the same like”.
5.Erros comuns
My room is as big than yours. My room is as big as yours.
as … as, e não than.
This bag is as heavier as that one. This bag is as heavy as that one.
