משפט תנאי שלישי (Third conditional)

המשפט התנאי השלישי: if + had + past participle (עבר מושלם), would have + past participle. משתמשים בו כדי לדמיין עבר שהיה יכול להיות שונה — גם התנאי וגם התוצאה הם לא מציאותיים, כי זה כבר קרה.

צורות מקוצרות: If I'd known (had), I'd have come (would), I would've come. בדיבור מהיר, would have נשמע כמעט כמו “would-ə”.

💡'd בפסוקית if הוא had (If I'd known); בתוצאה זה would (I'd have gone). בגלל ש-would've נשמע כמו “would of”, לעיתים כותבים זאת בטעות — תמיד יש לכתוב would have.

1. לדמיין עבר שונה — מה שבאמת קרה היה ההפך

• If I had left earlier, I wouldn't have missed the train.

  אם הייתי יוצא מוקדם יותר, לא הייתי מפספס את הרכבת.

• If Lan hadn't helped me, I would have failed the course.

  אם לאן לא הייתה עוזרת לי, הייתי נכשל בקורס.

2. חרטה או האשמה על משהו שקרה בעבר

• If you'd told me it was your birthday, I'd have bought you a cake.

  אם היית אומר לי שזה יום ההולדת שלך, הייתי קונה לך עוגה.

• We would have won if we hadn't made so many mistakes.

  היינו מנצחים אם לא היינו עושים כל כך הרבה טעויות.

3. הקלה שמשהו רע לא קרה

• If the neighbours hadn't smelled the smoke, the whole house would have burned down.

  אם השכנים לא היו מריחים את העשן, כל הבית היה נשרף.

• If you hadn't reminded me, I would have forgotten my passport.

  אם לא היית מזכיר לי, הייתי שוכח את הדרכון שלי.

בתוצאה אפשר להשתמש ב-could have + V3 (= היה יכול ל...), או might have + V3 (= אולי היה...), במקום would.

• If we'd booked earlier, we could have sat together.

  אם היינו מזמינים מוקדם יותר, היינו יכולים לשבת יחד.

• If she had applied, she might have won the scholarship.

  אם היא הייתה מגישה מועמדות, אולי הייתה זוכה במלגה.

משפט ה-if יכול להשתמש גם ב-had been + -ing (עבר מושלם ממושך) כשהפעולה התרחשה באותו רגע או במשך זמן מה. התוצאה נשארת זהה: would have + V3.

• If she had been wearing a helmet, she wouldn't have been hurt so badly.

  היא לא חבשה קסדה

• If I hadn't been looking at my phone, I wouldn't have walked into the door.

  הייתי מסתכל בו

• If you'd been listening, you would have heard the answer.

  אילו היית מקשיב, היית שומע את התשובה.

• If it hadn't been raining, we would have walked home.

  אילו לא היה יורד גשם, היינו הולכים הביתה ברגל.

💡בדיקה מהירה: האם מה שקרה באמת משתמש ב-was / were + -ing? אז משפט ה-if לוקח had been + -ing: She wasn't wearing a helmet ← If she had been wearing one… לפעולה שהסתיימה, נשארים עם had + V3.

• ✗She had no helmet on. If she was wearing one, she wouldn't have been hurt.

  ✓She had no helmet on. If she had been wearing one, she wouldn't have been hurt.

  עבר לא אמיתי לוקח עבר מושלם ממושך, לא עבר ממושך.

יש לבדוק את הזמן של כל פסוקית. פסוקית על העבר → had V3 / would have V3; פסוקית על ההווה → עבר פשוט / would + פועל. כאשר שתי הפסוקיות מתייחסות לזמנים שונים, מתקבל משפט תנאי מעורב.

• If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now.

  אם הייתי לומד רפואה, הייתי רופא עכשיו.

• If we hadn't moved to Da Nang, we wouldn't know each other.

  אם לא היינו עוברים לדא נאנג, לא היינו מכירים אחד את השני.

• If he were more organised, he wouldn't have forgotten the meeting.

  אם הוא היה יותר מאורגן, הוא לא היה שוכח את הפגישה.

• If I didn't have to work tomorrow, I would have stayed at the party longer.

  אם לא הייתי צריך לעבוד מחר, הייתי נשאר במסיבה יותר זמן.

💡במעורב 1 לרוב מופיעים now, today, still בתוצאה. אם רואים “now” ובפסוקית if יש had V3, התוצאה תהיה would + פועל, לא would have.

באנגלית פורמלית אפשר להשמיט את if ולשים had לפני הנושא: Had I known = If I had known. בשלילה: Had … not + V3 (לא מקצרים ל-Hadn't I…). ראו את השיעור “Inversion”.

• Had we known the road was closed, we would have gone another way.

  אם היינו יודעים שהכביש סגור, היינו נוסעים בדרך אחרת.

• Had she not called, I would have waited all night.

  אם היא לא הייתה מתקשרת, הייתי מחכה כל הלילה.

• ✗If I would have known, I would have come.

  ✓If I had known, I would have come.

  בפסוקית if יש להשתמש ב-had + V3. “If I would have…” נשמע לעיתים בדיבור יומיומי, אך אינו תקני.

• ✗If I knew you were in hospital, I would have visited you.

  ✓If I had known you were in hospital, I would have visited you.

  המשפט עוסק בעבר → had known.

• ✗We were late. If we had taken a taxi, we would arrive on time.

  ✓We were late. If we had taken a taxi, we would have arrived on time.

  גם התוצאה מתייחסת לעבר → would have + V3.

• ✗If she had took the medicine, she would have felt better.

  ✓If she had taken the medicine, she would have felt better.

  had + past participle (taken), לא עבר פשוט.

• ✗If she had asked me, I would of helped her.

  ✓If she had asked me, I would have helped her.

  would've נשמע כמו “would of”, אך תמיד כותבים have.

• ✗If it had not rained, we would have play tennis.

  ✓If it had not rained, we would have played tennis.

  would have + past participle.
