unless, in case, as long as, provided that, even if — शर्त बताने के दूसरे तरीके
1.एक नज़र में
if के अलावा English में शर्त बताने वाले कई और जोड़ने वाले शब्द हैं, और हर एक का अपना मतलब है।

if की तरह, इन सभी के बाद भविष्य के लिए present tense आता है, will नहीं: in case it rains (in case it will rain नहीं), unless you come (unless you will come नहीं)।
2.Unless = if … not
Unless में पहले से ही नकारात्मक मतलब (“if not”, “सिवाय इसके कि”) होता है, इसलिए इसके बाद की क्रिया आमतौर पर सकारात्मक होती है।
Unless we leave now, we'll be late.
अगर हम अभी नहीं निकले, तो देर हो जाएगी। (= If we don't leave now…)
I won't call you unless there's a problem.
जब तक कोई समस्या न हो, मैं आपको फ़ोन नहीं करूँगा।
Don't touch that unless you know what you're doing.
अगर आपको पता नहीं कि आप क्या कर रहे हैं, तो उसे मत छूइए।
Do you need a coat? — Not unless it gets really cold.
क्या आपको कोट चाहिए? — नहीं, जब तक बहुत ज़्यादा ठंड न हो जाए।
- Unless तब आता है जब शर्त ही एकमात्र अपवाद हो। कुछ if … not वाले वाक्यों को unless में नहीं बदला जा सकता, ख़ासकर जब आप किसी बात के न होने पर अपनी भावना बताते हैं: I'll be upset if you don't come (unless you come नहीं)।

3.In case = क्योंकि ऐसा हो सकता है
In case बताता है कि आप कोई काम अभी क्यों करते हैं: किसी ऐसी चीज़ के लिए तैयार रहने के लिए जो बाद में हो सकती है।
Save the file now in case the computer crashes.
अभी फ़ाइल सेव कर लें, कहीं कंप्यूटर क्रैश न हो जाए।
Take a photo of your passport in case you lose it.
अपने पासपोर्ट की फ़ोटो ले लें, कहीं वह खो न जाए।
In case और if एक जैसे नहीं हैं। तुलना करें:
I'll cook extra rice in case your friends come.
मैं थोड़े ज़्यादा चावल बना लूँगा, कहीं आपके दोस्त आ जाएँ। (मैं अभी बनाता हूँ, वे आएँ या न आएँ)
I'll cook extra rice if your friends come.
अगर आपके दोस्त आते हैं, तो मैं ज़्यादा चावल बनाऊँगा। (मैं तभी बनाऊँगा जब वे आएँगे)
- just in case = किसी छोटी-सी संभावना के लिए: I don't think we'll need it, but I'll bring a charger just in case।
- in case + past किसी किए हुए काम की वजह बताता है: I gave her my number in case she needed help।
- in case of + संज्ञा = अगर … हो (बोर्ड और निर्देशों में आम): In case of fire, use the stairs।
- अमेरिकी English में in case को कभी-कभी लगभग if की तरह इस्तेमाल किया जाता है: In case you need me, I'm in my office। सीखते समय दोनों मतलबों को ऊपर बताए तरीके से अलग रखें।
4.As long as / provided (that)
ये एक सख़्त शर्त बताते हैं: नतीजा तभी होता है जब यह शर्त पूरी हो। As long as / so long as बोलचाल में आम हैं; provided (that) / providing (that) ज़्यादा औपचारिक हैं और नियमों व अनुबंधों में आम हैं।
You can borrow my laptop as long as you're careful with it.
आप मेरा लैपटॉप ले जा सकते हैं, बशर्ते आप उसे सँभालकर रखें।
As long as you practise every day, your speaking will improve.
जब तक आप रोज़ अभ्यास करते रहेंगे, आपकी बोलचाल सुधरती रहेगी।
Guests may use the pool provided that they shower first.
मेहमान पूल का इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं, बशर्ते वे पहले शॉवर लें।
I'll lend you the money, providing you pay me back next month.
मैं तुम्हें पैसे उधार दे दूँगा, बशर्ते तुम अगले महीने लौटा दो।
As long as समय के बारे में भी हो सकता है, यानी “जितनी देर तक”: You can stay as long as you like। यह शर्त है या समय की अवधि, यह जानने के लिए पूरा वाक्य पढ़ें।
5.Even if = हो या न हो
Even if बताता है कि नतीजा वही रहता है, चाहे शर्त पूरी हो या न हो। इसे even though से न उलझाएँ, जो किसी तथ्य के बारे में होता है (पाठ “Although / though / despite” देखें)।
I'm going to the beach even if it rains.
बारिश हो तब भी मैं समुद्र तट पर जाऊँगा। (हमें अभी पता नहीं कि बारिश होगी या नहीं)
Even if we leave now, we won't get there on time.
अगर हम अभी निकल भी जाएँ, तब भी समय पर नहीं पहुँच पाएँगे।
Even though it was raining, we went to the beach.
हालाँकि बारिश हो रही थी, फिर भी हम समुद्र तट पर गए। (सच में बारिश हो रही थी)
6.आम गलतियाँ
Unless you don't study, you will fail the test.Unless you study, you will fail the test. / If you don't study, you will fail the test.
Unless में पहले से ही नकारात्मक मतलब है।
Bring a jacket in case it will get cold.Bring a jacket in case it gets cold.
भविष्य के लिए in case के बाद present लगाएँ।
I won't go unless you will come with me.I won't go unless you come with me.
unless के बाद will नहीं आता।
Take an umbrella in case of it rains.Take an umbrella in case it rains. / … in case of rain.
In case + उपवाक्य; in case of + संज्ञा।
Even it rains, we'll play football.Even if it rains, we'll play football.
यहाँ even if चाहिए, अकेला even नहीं।
Even though it rains tomorrow, I'll go.Even if it rains tomorrow, I'll go.
हमें पता नहीं कि बारिश होगी या नहीं → even if।
