形と使い方
-er than / more … than — 二つのものを比べる
1.形
比較級は、2つの人・もの・場所を比べるときに使います。短い形容詞には -er をつけ、長い形容詞には前に more を置きます。そのあとに than + 比べる相手を続けます。

-er と more はどちらか一方だけ使います：cheaper、more expensive（more cheaper は不可）。比べる言葉はいつも than です — 見た目も音も似ている that や then ではありません。
2.つづりと発音

-ed で終わる形容詞は、1音節でもふつう more を使います：more tired、more bored、more worried。far には2つの形があります：距離なら farther も further も使えます（イギリス英語では further のほうが一般的）。「それ以上の、追加の」という意味では further だけです：further information。
話し言葉では than はふつう弱く /ðən/ と発音し、前の語とつながります。強勢は形容詞に置きます：She's TALLer than me. -er の語尾を落とさないようにしましょう。
3.どんなときに使うか
1. 2つの人・もの・場所を比べる
My sister is taller than me.
姉は私より背が高い。
Hanoi is colder than Ho Chi Minh City in January.
1月のハノイはホーチミン市より寒い。
2. 同じものを別のときと比べる — than before、than usual、than I expected
The traffic is worse than usual today.
今日はいつもより渋滞がひどい。
The film was longer than I expected.
その映画は思っていたより長かった。
3. 人の動作のしかたを比べる（副詞） — -ly で終わる副詞には more を使います：more slowly、more carefully。ただし fast、hard、early、late は -er をつけ、well → better、badly → worse です。
Could you speak more slowly, please?

My mum gets up earlier than my dad.
母は父より早く起きます。
Lan cooks better than I do.
ランは私より料理が上手です。
4. 量の多い少ない：more / less / fewer — more + 名詞（more money、more friends）；less + 数えられない名詞（less traffic）；fewer + 複数名詞（fewer cars）。ふだんの会話では複数名詞にも less を使う人が多いですが、特に書き言葉では fewer が標準です。less + 形容詞 は more + 形容詞の反対です。
My cousin earns more money than me.
いとこは私より多くお金を稼いでいる。
There's less traffic in Hanoi during Tet.
テト（旧正月）の間、ハノイは交通量が少なくなる。
The bus is less expensive than the train.
バスは電車より安い。（= cheaper than）
4.than me か than I am か？どのくらい違う？
than のあとには2つの選び方があります。目的格の代名詞（than me、than him）— 話し言葉でとても自然です。または、主語 + 助動詞（than I am、than he does）— どんな文体でも使えます。「than I」だけで終わるとかなりかしこまって聞こえます。
My brother is taller than me. = My brother is taller than I am.
兄は私より背が高い。
She speaks English better than her husband does.
彼女は夫よりも英語を上手に話す。
正確な差を言うときは、数を比較級のすぐ前に置きます。「ずっと〜」「少し〜」（much、a bit、far…）については、レッスン「比較級 + much / a bit / far」を参照してください。
My sister is three years older than me.
姉は私より3歳年上です。
This shirt is 50,000 dong cheaper online.
このシャツはネットで買うと5万ドン安い。
差の大きさは比較級の前に置きます：three years older than me — older than me three years ではありません。
5.よくある間違い
This bag is more cheaper than that one.This bag is cheaper than that one.
すでに -er がついているので more は不要です。
This road is more long than the old one.This road is longer than the old one.
1音節の形容詞は -er をつけます。

比較級は than と一緒に使います。

good → better（不規則変化）。

elder は than と一緒に使いません。older を使います。
