動詞 + 人 + to 不定詞

ほかの人に何かをしてほしいと言うとき（want, ask, tell, advise…）は、動詞 + 目的語（人）+ to + 動詞 を使います。人は目的格にします：me, you, him, her, us, them または名前。

💡日本語の「あなたに来てほしい」につられて、「I want that you come」や「I want you come」と言ってしまいがちです。英語では want + you + to come の3つの部分がすべて必要です。人は目的格にします：want him（he ではない）to come。

1. 望む・期待する・必要とする：want, would like, expect, need

• My parents want me to study medicine.

  両親は私に医学を勉強してほしいと思っています。

• I'd like you to meet my cousin, Hoa.

  いとこのホアを紹介させてください。

• The coach expects us to train every morning.

  コーチは私たちに毎朝トレーニングすることを求めています。

2. 頼む・言う・思い出させる・誘う：ask, tell, remind, beg, invite, help

• Can you remind me to buy some eggs?

  卵を買うのを忘れないように言ってくれる？

• The teacher told us not to use dictionaries.

  先生は私たちに辞書を使わないように言いました。

• Minh invited me to join his band.

  ミンは自分のバンドに入らないかと私を誘ってくれました。

3. 助言する・説得する・励ます・警告する：advise, encourage, persuade, convince, warn, urge

• The doctor advised me to get more sleep.

  医者は私にもっと睡眠をとるよう助言しました。

• My friends persuaded me to try karaoke.

  友達に説得されて、カラオケに挑戦しました。

• They warned us not to swim after dark.

  暗くなってから泳がないようにと注意されました。

4. 許可する・強いる・可能にする・教える：allow, permit, force, enable, teach, get（= 説得する、くだけた言い方）

• The rain forced us to stay indoors.

  雨のせいで、私たちは屋内にいるしかありませんでした。

• This app allows you to track your spending.

  このアプリを使えば支出を記録できます。

• My grandpa taught me to fish.

  祖父は私に釣りを教えてくれました。

• I finally got my brother to clean his room.

  やっと弟に部屋を片づけさせました。

意味が似ていても、人 + to + 動詞をとらない動詞があります。別の形を使いましょう。make と let は to なしで人 + 動詞の原形をとります — レッスン『「make / let」人 + 動詞』を見てください。

advise, allow, permit, encourage では、動詞のあとに人がいれば to + 動詞、人がいなければ -ing です。recommend は -ing か that 節を使うのがいちばん安全です：I recommend booking early / I recommend (that) you book early.

• I'd advise you to bring a raincoat. / I'd advise bringing a raincoat.

  レインコートを持っていくことをおすすめします。

• They don't allow people to park here. / They don't allow parking here.

  ここは駐車禁止です。

受動態もとてもよく使います：be allowed to, be asked to, be told to, be advised to, be expected to。

• You're not allowed to bring food into the cinema.

  映画館に食べ物を持ち込むことはできません。

• Passengers are asked to keep their bags with them.

  お客様は手荷物を身につけておくようお願いいたします。

💡依頼や命令を伝えるときにもこの形を使います：“Please sit down,” she said. → She asked me to sit down. “Don't be late!” → He told us not to be late. レッスン「間接話法」も見てください。

• ✗I want you come early tomorrow.

  ✓I want you to come early tomorrow.

  to が抜けています。

• ✗My parents want that I become a doctor.

  ✓My parents want me to become a doctor.

  want は that 節をとりません。

• ✗She told me don't worry.

  ✓She told me not to worry.

  否定は not to + 動詞です。

• ✗He said me to wait outside.

  ✓He told me to wait outside.

  say は「人 + to」の形をとりません。tell を使います。

• ✗The doctor suggested me to rest.

  ✓The doctor advised me to rest. / The doctor suggested (that) I rest.

  suggest は「人 + to」の形をとりません。

• ✗They don't allow to smoke here.

  ✓They don't allow smoking here. / They don't allow people to smoke here.

  allow は「人 + to + 動詞」か -ing が必要です。
