Intermedio

Verb + person + to-infinitive

Forma e uso

La persona va nella forma oggetto: me, you, him, her, us, them o un nome.

StrutturaEsempio
Affermativaverb + O + to VI want you to come.
Negativa (secondo verbo)verb + O + not to VShe told me not to worry.
Negativa (primo verbo)don't / didn't + verb + O + to VThey didn't ask us to stay.
Domandado / did + S + verb + O + to V?Do you want me to help?
Passivobe + V3 + to VWe were asked to wait.

In italiano si dice “voglio che tu venga”, e così viene spontaneo dire “I want that you come” o “I want you come”. L'inglese ha bisogno di tutte e tre le parti: want + you + to come. La persona va nella forma oggetto: want him (non he) to come.

2.Verbi comuni

3.Verbi che non usano questa struttura

Alcuni verbi dal significato simile non reggono persona + to + verbo: usa un'altra struttura. make e let reggono persona + forma base, senza to: vedi la lezione “‘Make / let’ qualcuno fare”.

VerboSi diceNon
hopeI hope (that) you like it.I hope you to like it.
suggestI suggest (that) you rest. / I suggest resting.I suggest you to rest.

4.Con la persona: to + verbo; senza: -ing

Con advise, allow, permit, encourage: se dopo il verbo c'è una persona → to + verbo; se non c'è nessuna persona → -ing. Con recommend le scelte più sicure sono -ing o una frase con that: I recommend booking early / I recommend (that) you book early.

Non è permesso portare cibo al cinema.
