หลังกริยาที่เกี่ยวกับประสาทสัมผัส — see, hear, watch, notice, feel, listen to — ใช้ กรรม + กริยารูปเดิม หรือ กรรม + -ing ได้ ในประโยค active ไม่มี to และกริยาตัวที่สองไม่เปลี่ยนตาม tense

💡มีแค่กริยาประสาทสัมผัสที่เปลี่ยนตาม tense กริยาตัวที่สองยังเป็นรูปเดิมหรือ -ing: saw him leave / saw him leaving ไม่ใช่ “saw him left”

1. กริยารูปเดิม — การกระทำที่ครบถ้วน: เห็นหรือได้ยินตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบ หรือเป็นการกระทำหลายอย่างต่อเนื่องกัน

• I saw him get off the bus and walk into the bank.

  ฉันเห็นเขาลงจากรถเมล์แล้วเดินเข้าธนาคาร

• We watched the sun go down over the sea.

  เราดูพระอาทิตย์ตกลงทะเล

• Did you hear the phone ring?

  คุณได้ยินโทรศัพท์ดังไหม

2. -ing — การกระทำที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่: เห็นหรือได้ยินแค่บางส่วน ไม่จำเป็นต้องเห็นตอนเริ่มหรือตอนจบ

• I heard someone singing in the shower.

  ฉันได้ยินใครสักคนร้องเพลงอยู่ในห้องอาบน้ำ

• When I walked in, I noticed two kids hiding behind the sofa.

  ตอนเดินเข้าไป ฉันสังเกตเห็นเด็กสองคนแอบอยู่หลังโซฟา

• I could feel my heart beating fast.

  ฉันรู้สึกได้ว่าหัวใจเต้นเร็ว

3. การกระทำที่สั้นมากหรือยาวนาน: การกระทำที่จบในพริบตา (ประตูปิดดังปัง ล้ม ตะโกนครั้งเดียว) มักใช้กริยารูปเดิม การกระทำที่ยาวนานหรือเกิดซ้ำ ๆ มักใช้ -ing

• I heard the door slam.

  ฉันได้ยินเสียงประตูปิดดังปัง

• I heard the dog barking all night.

  ฉันได้ยินหมาเห่าทั้งคืน

4. smell, catch, find ตามด้วย -ing (ไม่ใช่กริยารูปเดิม)

• I can smell something burning!

  ฉันได้กลิ่นอะไรไหม้!

• My mum caught me eating sweets before dinner.

  แม่จับได้ว่าฉันแอบกินขนมก่อนข้าวเย็น

• I found him sleeping on the sofa.

  ฉันเจอเขานอนหลับอยู่บนโซฟา

บ่อยครั้งทั้งสองรูปถูกไวยากรณ์ — รูปที่เลือกจะเปลี่ยนความหมาย

• I watched them play the whole match.

  ฉันดูพวกเขาเล่นจนจบเกม

• I watched them playing for a few minutes, then left.

  ฉันดูพวกเขาเล่นอยู่สักพัก แล้วก็เดินออกมา

• I saw him cross the road.

  ฉันเห็นเขาข้ามถนน (เขาข้ามไปถึงอีกฝั่งแล้ว)

• I saw him crossing the road.

💡ถ้าไม่แน่ใจ ให้ถามตัวเองว่า: ฉันเห็นการกระทำทั้งหมดตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบไหม ใช่ → กริยารูปเดิม เห็นแค่บางส่วน → -ing

• หน้า see, hear, smell และ feel มักเติม can / could: I can hear the neighbours arguing again.
• ใน passive to กลับมา (ค่อนข้างทางการ): He was seen to enter the building. รูป -ing ยังเหมือนเดิม: He was seen entering the building.
• see / hear + that + อนุประโยค มีความหมายต่างออกไป คือรู้ตัวหรือได้ข่าวเรื่องหนึ่ง ไม่ใช่เห็นหรือได้ยินกับตา/หูตัวเอง: I saw that she was upset. / I heard that you got a new job.
• คนต้องอยู่ในรูปกรรม: heard him singing, saw them leave (ไม่ใช่ he, they)

• ✗I saw him to leave the office.

  ✓I saw him leave the office.

  ประโยค active ไม่มี to หลัง see / hear

• ✗We heard her sang a beautiful song.

  ✓We heard her sing a beautiful song.

  อย่าเปลี่ยนกริยาตัวที่สองเป็นอดีต

• ✗I watched him crossed the road.

  ✓I watched him cross the road.

  อย่าเปลี่ยนกริยาตัวที่สองเป็นอดีต

• ✗I heard he singing in his room.

  ✓I heard him singing in his room.

  ใช้รูปกรรม (him)

• ✗I can smell something burn.
