Lezione 73 · Tappa 6: Costruzioni verbali
“See / hear” qualcuno fare / mentre fa
Intermedio“See / hear someone do / doing”
Forma e uso
see/hear/watch + persona + verbo o -ing — notare l'azione di qualcuno
1.Forma
Dopo i verbi di percezione (see, hear, watch, notice, feel, listen to) puoi usare complemento oggetto + forma base oppure complemento oggetto + -ing.
| Struttura | Significato | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| see / hear + O + V | noti l'intera azione, dall'inizio alla fine | I saw her park the car. |
| see / hear + O + -ing | noti una parte di un'azione in corso | I saw her parking the car. |
Cambia tempo solo il verbo di percezione; il secondo verbo resta alla forma base o in -ing: saw him leave / saw him leaving, non “saw him left”.
2.Quando usare ciascuna forma
I saw him get off the bus and walk into the bank.
L'ho visto scendere dall'autobus ed entrare in banca.
We watched the sun go down over the sea.
Abbiamo guardato il sole tramontare sul mare.
Did you hear the phone ring?
Hai sentito squillare il telefono?
I heard someone singing in the shower.
When I walked in, I noticed two kids hiding behind the sofa.
I could feel my heart beating fast.
Sentivo il cuore che mi batteva forte.
I heard the door slam.
Ho sentito sbattere la porta.
I heard the dog barking all night.
I can smell something burning!
Sento puzza di bruciato!
My mum caught me eating sweets before dinner.
I found him sleeping on the sofa.
I watched them play the whole match.
Li ho guardati giocare tutta la partita.
I watched them playing for a few minutes, then left.
Li ho guardati giocare per qualche minuto, poi me ne sono andato.
I saw him cross the road.
L'ho visto attraversare la strada. (è arrivato dall'altra parte)
I saw him crossing the road.
L'ho visto mentre attraversava la strada. (era a metà dell'attraversamento)
Nel dubbio, chiediti: ho assistito all'azione intera, dall'inizio alla fine? Sì → forma base. Solo a una parte → -ing.
4.Altri dettagli
- Con see, hear, smell e feel aggiungiamo spesso can / could: I can hear the neighbours arguing again.
- Al passivo ritorna il to (abbastanza formale): He was seen to enter the building. La forma in -ing resta uguale: He was seen entering the building.
- see / hear + that + frase ha un altro significato: rendersi conto di qualcosa o venirlo a sapere, non assistervi direttamente: I saw that she was upset. / I heard that you got a new job.
- La persona va nella forma oggetto: heard him singing, saw them leave (non he, they).
5.Errori comuni
I saw him to leave the office.I saw him leave the office.
Nelle frasi attive niente to dopo see / hear.
We heard her sang a beautiful song.We heard her sing a beautiful song.
Non mettere il secondo verbo al passato.
