1. The thing is… / The problem is…

The problem is, nobody knows the password.
2. The point is…

3. What I mean is… / What I'm trying to say is…

4. It's not that… It's just that…

5. I was wondering if…

พูดโครงประโยคเป็นก้อนเดียวลื่น ๆ แล้วหยุดสั้น ๆ ก่อนเข้าเรื่องหลัก: “The thing is, | I don't have a car.”
The film is worth watching (ไม่ใช่: worth watching it) แบบสั้น: It's worth it.
- There's no point (in) + -ing / It's no use + -ing = ทำไปก็ไม่ช่วยอะไร ในภาษาพูดตัด in ได้: There's no point arguing.
- can't / couldn't help + -ing = ห้ามตัวเองไม่ได้ จะพูดว่า can't help but + กริยารูปเดิม (I couldn't help but laugh)
- look forward to + -ing / คำนาม = ตั้งตารอสิ่งที่จะเกิดในอนาคต to ตรงนี้เป็นบุพบท (ดูบทเรียน “บุพบท + -ing”) I look forward to… I'm looking forward to…

I'm really looking forward to seeing you at the weekend.
- can't wait + to + กริยา = ตื่นเต้นมาก รอไม่ไหว: I can't wait to see my family. (เทียบกับ look forward to + -ing)
- It's time + to + กริยา = ถึงเวลาแล้ว; It's time for + คน + to + กริยา;
I'd rather not talk about it.
- It turns out (that) + อนุประโยค = เพิ่งรู้เรื่องที่น่าแปลกใจ; No wonder + อนุประโยค = มิน่าล่ะ

- To be honest, … To be honest, I didn't enjoy the film.
- If you ask me, … / The way I see it, … If you ask me, it's too expensive.

- I'm afraid (that) … / I'm afraid so / I'm afraid not — บอกข่าวร้ายอย่างสุภาพ: I'm afraid I can't come.
As far as I concern วลีที่ถูกคือ As far as I'm concerned, …
