構成與用法
a/an 指眾多中的一個或新出現的事物，the 指雙方都已知道的那個
1.A 還是 an？
a / an 的意思是“一個”。只用在單數可數名詞前面（a book, an egg）。用 a 還是 an，要看後面那個詞的第一個音，而不是第一個字母。

如果名詞前有形容詞，就看形容詞的第一個音：an old bike，但 a big apple。
She's an honest person.
她是個誠實的人。（h 不發音 → an）
It's a useful app.
這是個很有用的應用。（useful 以 /j/ 開頭 → a）
I'll be back in an hour.
我一小時後回來。
中文沒有冠詞，說“我媽媽是老師”“我有摩托車”就夠了。但英語裡，單數可數名詞前面幾乎總要有 a/an/the/my…：My mum is a teacher. I have a motorbike.
2.什麼時候用 a / an
1. 第一次提到某物，或者指許多中的任意一個——聽的人不知道是哪一個
I saw a really funny video yesterday.
我昨天看了一個特別搞笑的影片。
Is there a pharmacy near here?
這附近有藥店嗎？
2. 說明某人或某物是什麼——職業、某一類人或物
My sister is a nurse.
我姐姐是護士。（不說：My sister is nurse）
It's a beautiful day.
今天天氣真好。
3. 表示“每”——頻率、價格、速度
I go swimming twice a week.
我每週遊兩次泳。
Mangoes are 40,000 dong a kilo.
芒果四萬越南盾一公斤。

1. 聽的人知道是哪一個，因為你前面已經提到過
I ordered a pizza and a salad. The pizza was cold.
我點了一個披薩和一份沙拉。披薩是涼的。
We stayed at a small hotel. The owner was really friendly.
我們住在一家小旅館。旅館老闆特別友好。
2. 從情境就能看出是哪一個——比如在你家、你的教室或你住的城市裡
Can you close the window, please?
請把窗戶關上好嗎？
Excuse me, where's the bathroom?
打擾一下，洗手間在哪裡？
3. 獨一無二的事物：the sun, the moon, the sky, the sea, the internet
The sun is very strong today.
今天太陽很曬。
I found the recipe on the internet.
我在網上找到了這個食譜。
4. 名詞後面有短語說明是哪一個
Who's the girl in the red dress?
穿紅裙子的那個女孩是誰？
The book you lent me is great.
你借給我的那本書很好看。
發音：the 在子音音素前通常讀 /ðə/（the book），在母音音素前常讀 /ði/（the apple）。
4.a / an 和 the 的區別
同一個名詞，冠詞不同，意思就不同：a = 任意一個，the = 雙方都知道的那一個。
Can I borrow a pen?
能借我一支筆嗎？（隨便哪支都行）
Can I borrow the pen on your desk?
能借一下你桌上那支筆嗎？（特定的那支筆）
I need a taxi.
我需要叫一輛計程車。（還沒有具體是哪一輛）
The taxi is here.
計程車到了。（我們叫的那輛）
記住：複數名詞和不可數名詞前不用 a/an（不說 a books, a water）——見“可數名詞與不可數名詞”一課。泛指一整類事物時，通常不用冠詞：I love cats.——見“什麼時候用 the（什麼時候不用）”一課。
5.常見錯誤
My father is engineer.My father is an engineer.
說職業要用 a/an。

umbrella 以母音音素開頭 → 用 an。

university 以 /j/ 開頭，是子音音素 → 用 a。

第二次提到 → 用 the。

天空只有一個 → 用 the。

複數名詞前不用 a。
