शुरुआतीरूप और प्रयोग
a/an कई में से एक या नई चीज़ के लिए, the उस चीज़ के लिए जिसे दोनों पहले से जानते हैं
1.A या an?
a / an का मतलब है “एक”। यह सिर्फ़ एकवचन गणनीय संज्ञा से पहले आता है (a book, an egg)। a या an अगले शब्द की पहली आवाज़ से तय होता है, अक्षर से नहीं।

हिंदी में a/an/the जैसे आर्टिकल नहीं होते — हम “मेरी मम्मी टीचर हैं” कहते हैं, बिना किसी “एक” के। English में एकवचन गणनीय संज्ञा से पहले लगभग हमेशा a/an/the/my… चाहिए: My mum is a teacher. I have a motorbike.
2.a / an कब लगाएँ
1. किसी चीज़ का पहली बार ज़िक्र करते समय, या बहुत-सी चीज़ों में से कोई एक — सुनने वाला नहीं जानता कि कौन-सी
I saw a really funny video yesterday.

2. यह बताते समय कि कोई व्यक्ति या चीज़ क्या है — पेशा, किस तरह का व्यक्ति या चीज़

3. “प्रति” के अर्थ में — कितनी बार, दाम, रफ़्तार

3.the कब लगाएँ
1. सुनने वाला जानता है कि कौन-सा, क्योंकि आप उसका ज़िक्र पहले ही कर चुके हैं
I ordered a pizza and a salad. The pizza was cold.
मैंने एक पिज़्ज़ा और एक सलाद मँगाया। पिज़्ज़ा ठंडा था।
We stayed at a small hotel. The owner was really friendly.

3. ऐसी चीज़ जो एक ही है: the sun, the moon, the sky, the sea, the internet

4. संज्ञा के बाद का वाक्यांश बताता है कि कौन-सा
Who's the girl in the red dress?
लाल ड्रेस वाली वह लड़की कौन है?
The book you lent me is great.
आपने जो किताब मुझे दी थी, वह बहुत अच्छी है।
उच्चारण: व्यंजन ध्वनि से पहले the आमतौर पर /ðə/ बोला जाता है (the book) और स्वर ध्वनि से पहले अक्सर /ði/ (the apple)।
4.a / an बनाम the
अलग आर्टिकल के साथ वही संज्ञा अलग मतलब देती है: a = कोई भी एक, the = वह जिसे दोनों लोग जानते हैं।
Can I borrow a pen?

Can I borrow the pen on your desk?

याद रखें: बहुवचन या अगणनीय संज्ञाओं के साथ a/an नहीं लगता (a books, a water नहीं) — पाठ “गिनने योग्य और न गिनने योग्य संज्ञाएँ” देखें। जब आप किसी पूरे समूह की आम तौर पर बात करते हैं, तो आमतौर पर कोई आर्टिकल नहीं लगता: I love cats. — पाठ “the कब लगाएँ (और कब नहीं)” देखें।
