Lección 62 · Etapa 5: Pasiva, estilo indirecto y preguntas
Voz pasiva
IntermedioPassive voice
Forma y uso
Someone cleans the office every evening. → The office is cleaned every evening.
Alguien limpia la oficina todas las tardes. → La oficina se limpia todas las tardes.
A taxi driver found my wallet. → My wallet was found by a taxi driver.
Un taxista encontró mi cartera. → Mi cartera fue encontrada por un taxista.
| Tiempo | Voz activa | Voz pasiva |
|---|---|---|
| Presente simple | They clean the room every day. | The room is cleaned every day. |
| Presente continuo | They are cleaning the room. | The room is being cleaned. |
| Pasado simple | They cleaned the room. | The room was cleaned. |
| Pasado continuo | They were cleaning the room. | The room was being cleaned. |
| Present perfect | They have cleaned the room. | The room has been cleaned. |
| Pasado perfecto | They had cleaned the room. | The room had been cleaned. |
| Futuro con will | They will clean the room. | The room will be cleaned. |
| Be going to | They are going to clean the room. | The room is going to be cleaned. |
- Negativa: pon not después del primer auxiliar: The email wasn't sent. / It hasn't been fixed yet.
- Pregunta: pon el primer auxiliar delante del sujeto: Was it sent? / Has it been fixed? / When was this house built?
- Los tiempos perfectos continuos (has been being done…) casi nunca se usan en pasiva.
La pasiva en inglés se forma con be + V3, sea buena o mala la noticia: I was invited, I was fined. Y si el sujeto no hace la acción, la pasiva es obligatoria: no “This house built in 1990”, sino This house was built in 1990.
2.Pasiva con modales, to-infinitivo y -ing
Después de can, must, should, may, might, will, have to, need to… usa be + V3. Para el pasado, usa modal + have been + V3.
All phones must be turned off during the exam.

I want to be told the truth.
Quiero que me digan la verdad.
I hate being told what to do.

Coffee is grown in the Central Highlands.

These shoes are made in Vietnam.
Estos zapatos están hechos en Vietnam.
Your order hasn't been sent yet.
Tu pedido todavía no ha sido enviado.
3. Estilo formal: avisos, noticias, instrucciones, informes

El desayuno se sirve de 6 a 9.
Two people were injured in the crash.
Dos personas resultaron heridas en el accidente.
The results will be announced on Friday.
4.By + quien hace la acción
This picture was painted by my uncle.
Este cuadro lo pintó mi tío.
Our cat was bitten by the neighbour's dog.
Rice noodles are made from rice flour.
- by + la persona o cosa que hace la acción: The roof was damaged by the storm.
- with + la herramienta que se usa: The door was opened with a spare key.
- made of (todavía se ve el material), made from (el material se ha transformado), made in (el lugar): a table made of wood, paper is made from wood, made in Japan.
5.Algunos casos especiales
- Verbos con dos objetos (give, send, offer, show, tell, teach, pay…): normalmente el sujeto es la persona: I was given a free ticket. A free ticket was given to me es posible, pero menos común.
- Born siempre va en pasiva: I was born in Hue (no: I born / I am born).
- Los verbos con preposición mantienen la preposición después del V3: The shop was broken into. / The kids are looked after by their grandma.
- Los verbos sin objeto como happen, arrive, die, appear, disappear, occur no tienen pasiva: The accident happened at 8 a.m.
- En el inglés hablado también se usa get + V3 (got stolen, get paid): mira la lección “Voz pasiva con ‘get’”. Las oraciones como It is said that… tienen su propia lección: “It is said that…”.
