Lección 65 · Etapa 5: Pasiva, estilo indirecto y preguntas
Estilo indirecto
IntermedioReported speech
Forma y uso
said / told a alguien (that) + oración, asked if — repetir lo que alguien dijo
1.Estilo directo y estilo indirecto
“I'm tired,” Minh said. → Minh said (that) he was tired.
“Estoy cansado”, dijo Minh. → Minh dijo que estaba cansado.
“I've lost my keys,” Lan told me. → Lan told me she had lost her keys.
“He perdido las llaves”, me dijo Lan.
|---|---|---|
| presente simple → pasado simple | “I live in Hue.” | She said she lived in Hue. |
| presente continuo → pasado continuo | “I'm cooking dinner.” | He said he was cooking dinner. |
| present perfect → pasado perfecto | “I've seen the film.” | He said he had seen the film. |
| pasado simple → pasado perfecto (o sin cambio) | “I bought it online.” | She said she had bought it online. / She said she bought it online. |
| will → would | “I'll call you.” | He said he would call me. |
| can → could | “I can help.” | She said she could help. |
| must → had to (o se mantiene must) | “I must leave before ten.” | She said she had to leave before ten. |
| am/is/are going to → was/were going to | “I'm going to visit my grandparents.” | He said he was going to visit his grandparents. |
| may → might | “It may rain.” | They said it might rain. |
Would, could, should, might, ought to y el pasado perfecto no cambian.
Después de said / told, pregúntate cuándo se dijeron esas palabras. Si fue en el pasado y la situación ya terminó, retrocede el tiempo: Minh said he was tired (no: is tired).
3.Cuándo no hace falta cambiar el tiempo
My brother says he lost his wallet on the bus this morning.
The weather forecast says it's going to rain all weekend.
Lan said she lives in Da Nang. / Lan said she lived in Da Nang.
Lan dijo que vive en Da Nang. / Lan dijo que vivía en Da Nang. (todavía vive allí → las dos están bien)
The receptionist told us that the pool closes at nine.
You said you didn't like durian, but you've eaten three pieces!
(no: you don't like)
|---|---|
| today / tonight | that day / that night |
| tomorrow | the next day / the following day |
| yesterday | the day before / the previous day |
| next week | the following week / the week after |
| last week | the week before / the previous week |
| … ago | … before / … earlier |
| now | then / at that time |
| here / this | there / that |
Last week Nam said, “I'll call you tomorrow.” → Last week Nam said he would call me the next day.
5.Say o tell
- tell + persona (tienes que decir quién lo oyó): She told me (that) she was busy. No “told that…” ni “told to me”.
- say + (that) + oración, sin el oyente justo después: She said (that) she was busy. Para mencionar al oyente, usa say to + persona: He said to me that… (menos común que told me).
- Expresiones fijas: tell the truth / a lie / a story / a joke / the time; say hello / goodbye / sorry / something / no.
- Otros verbos para reportar: explain (to sb) that, promise (that), warn sb that, admit that, complain that, agree that.
The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.
She promised she would never be late again.
Prometió que nunca volvería a llegar tarde.
The guide warned us that the path was slippery.
6.Reportar preguntas y peticiones
Una pregunta reportada se convierte en afirmación: el sujeto va antes del verbo, do / does / did desaparecen, no hay signo de interrogación y el tiempo también retrocede.
- Preguntas con wh-: asked (+ persona) + palabra interrogativa + sujeto + verbo.
- Preguntas de sí o no: asked (+ persona) + if / whether + sujeto + verbo.
- Peticiones y órdenes: asked / told + persona + (not) to + verbo. Mira la lección “Verbo + persona + to-infinitivo”.
“Where do you live?” → She asked me where I lived.
“¿Dónde vives?” → Me preguntó dónde vivía.
“Where did you buy this jacket?” → My friend asked me where I had bought that jacket.
“¿Dónde compraste esta chaqueta?” → Mi amigo me preguntó dónde había comprado esa chaqueta.
“Are you cooking?” → Mai asked if I was cooking.
“¿Estás cocinando?” → Mai me preguntó si estaba cocinando.
“Please wait here.” → The nurse asked us to wait there.
“Espere aquí, por favor.” → La enfermera nos pidió que esperáramos allí.
“Don't touch it!” → He told me not to touch it.
“¡No lo toques!” → Me dijo que no lo tocara.
Las preguntas corteses como Do you know where… is? también usan el orden de una afirmación, pero sin retroceder el tiempo. Mira la lección “Preguntas indirectas”.
7.Errores comunes
She said me she was hungry. She told me she was hungry.
She told that she was busy. She said that she was busy.
tell siempre necesita un oyente: told me / told him.
The waiter told to us that the kitchen was closed. The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.
tell + persona, sin to.
He asked me where was the bus station. He asked me where the bus station was.

Preguntas de sí o no → if/whether, sin did.
My boss said he will give me a day off, but he forgot. My boss said he would give me a day off, but he forgot.
La promesa es del pasado y no se cumplió → will pasa a would.
