Dolaylı anlatım

Doğrudan anlatım söylenen sözleri tırnak içinde aynen tekrarlar. Dolaylı anlatım ise anlamı tırnaksız aktarır: said / told + (that) + yan cümle. That'i, özellikle konuşurken, atlayabilirsin. Zamirleri duruma göre değiştirmeyi unutma.

• “I'm tired,” Minh said. → Minh said (that) he was tired.

  “Yorgunum,” dedi Minh. → Minh yorgun olduğunu söyledi.

• “I've lost my keys,” Lan told me. → Lan told me she had lost her keys.

  “Anahtarlarımı kaybettim,” dedi Lan bana. → Lan bana anahtarlarını kaybettiğini söyledi.

Aktarma fiili geçmiş zamandaysa (said, told, asked), aktarılan cümledeki fiil genellikle geçmişe doğru bir adım geri kayar.

Would, could, should, might, ought to ve Past Perfect aynı kalır.

💡said / told'dan sonra sözlerin ne zaman söylendiğini kendine sor. Geçmişte söylendiyse ve o durum artık geride kaldıysa zamanı geri kaydır: Minh said he was tired (is tired değil).

1. Aktarma fiili şimdiki zamandaysa (says, tells, has said) — çoğu zaman bir mesajı hemen iletirken ya da birinin hep söylediği bir şeyi aktarırken

• My brother says he lost his wallet on the bus this morning.

  Kardeşim bu sabah otobüste cüzdanını kaybettiğini söylüyor.

• The weather forecast says it's going to rain all weekend.

  Hava durumuna göre bütün hafta sonu yağmur yağacakmış.

2. Hâlâ doğruysa — zamanı geri kaydırabilir ya da olduğu gibi bırakabilirsin

• Lan said she lives in Da Nang. / Lan said she lived in Da Nang.

  Lan, Da Nang'da yaşadığını söyledi. (hâlâ orada yaşıyor → ikisi de doğru)

• The receptionist told us that the pool closes at nine.

  Resepsiyonist bize havuzun saat dokuzda kapandığını söyledi.

3. Ama söylenen şey artık doğru değilse ya da şu anki gerçek durumdan farklıysa zamanı mutlaka geri kaydır

• You said you didn't like durian, but you've eaten three pieces!

  Durian sevmediğini söylemiştin, ama üç parça yedin! (you don't like değil)

Sözleri başka bir gün ya da başka bir yerde aktarıyorsan, zaman ve yer bildiren kelimeler de değişir. Hâlâ aynı gün ve aynı yerdeysen onları değiştirme.

• Last week Nam said, “I'll call you tomorrow.” → Last week Nam said he would call me the next day.

  Geçen hafta Nam, “Seni yarın ararım” dedi. → Geçen hafta Nam beni ertesi gün arayacağını söyledi.

• tell + kişi (dinleyeni mutlaka belirtmelisin): She told me (that) she was busy. “told that…” ya da “told to me” değil.
• say + (that) + yan cümle; hemen ardından dinleyen gelmez: She said (that) she was busy. Dinleyeni belirtmek için say to + kişi kullan: He said to me that… (told me'den daha az yaygın).
• Kalıplar: tell the truth / a lie / a story / a joke / the time; say hello / goodbye / sorry / something / no.
• Diğer aktarma fiilleri: explain (to sb) that, promise (that), warn sb that, admit that, complain that, agree that.

• The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.

  Garson bize mutfağın kapandığını söyledi.

• She promised she would never be late again.

  Bir daha asla geç kalmayacağına söz verdi.

• The guide warned us that the path was slippery.

  Rehber bizi patikanın kaygan olduğu konusunda uyardı.

Aktarılan soru düz cümleye dönüşür: özne fiilden önce gelir, do / does / did kaybolur, soru işareti olmaz ve zaman yine geri kayar.

• Wh- soruları: asked (+ kişi) + soru kelimesi + özne + fiil.
• Evet/hayır soruları: asked (+ kişi) + if / whether + özne + fiil.
• Rica ve emirler: asked / told + kişi + (not) to + fiil — “Fiil + kişi + to-mastar” dersine bak.

• “Where do you live?” → She asked me where I lived.

  “Nerede oturuyorsun?” → Bana nerede oturduğumu sordu.

• “Where did you buy this jacket?” → My friend asked me where I had bought that jacket.

  “Bu ceketi nereden aldın?” → Arkadaşım bana o ceketi nereden aldığımı sordu.

• “Are you cooking?” → Mai asked if I was cooking.

  “Yemek mi yapıyorsun?” → Mai yemek yapıp yapmadığımı sordu.

• “Please wait here.” → The nurse asked us to wait there.

  “Lütfen burada bekleyin.” → Hemşire bizden orada beklememizi istedi.

• “Don't touch it!” → He told me not to touch it.

  “Ona dokunma!” → Bana ona dokunmamamı söyledi.

💡Do you know where… is? gibi kibar sorular da düz cümle sırasıyla kurulur, ama zaman geri kaymaz — “Dolaylı sorular” dersine bak.

• ✗She said me she was hungry.

  ✓She told me she was hungry.

  say'den hemen sonra dinleyen gelemez; tell + kişi kullan.

• ✗She told that she was busy.

  ✓She said that she was busy.

  tell her zaman bir dinleyen ister: told me / told him.

• ✗The waiter told to us that the kitchen was closed.

  ✓The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.

  tell + kişi, to olmadan.

• ✗He asked me where was the bus station.

  ✓He asked me where the bus station was.

  Aktarılan sorularda düz cümle sırası kullanılır.

• ✗Nam asked me did I want to join his team.

  ✓Nam asked me if I wanted to join his team.

  Evet/hayır soruları → if/whether, did olmadan.

• ✗My boss said he will give me a day off, but he forgot.

  ✓My boss said he would give me a day off, but he forgot.

  Söz geçmişte verildi ve tutulmadı → will, would olur.
