間接話法

直接話法は、話した言葉をそのまま引用符の中に入れます。間接話法は、引用符を使わずに内容を伝えます：said / told + (that) + 節。that は、特に話し言葉では省略できます。代名詞を状況に合わせて変えるのを忘れないでください。

• “I'm tired,” Minh said. → Minh said (that) he was tired.

  「疲れた」とミンは言いました。→ ミンは疲れていると言いました。

• “I've lost my keys,” Lan told me. → Lan told me she had lost her keys.

  「鍵をなくしちゃった」とランは私に言いました。→ ランは鍵をなくしたと私に言いました。

伝える動詞が過去形（said, told, asked）のとき、伝える内容の動詞はふつう1段階過去にずらします。

would, could, should, might, ought to と過去完了形は変わりません。

💡said / told の後ろでは、その言葉がいつ話されたのかを考えましょう。過去に話されて、その状況がもう終わっているなら、時制をずらします：Minh said he was tired（is tired ではない）。

1. 伝える動詞が現在形のとき（says, tells, has said） — 伝言をすぐに伝えるときや、いつも言っていることを伝えるときによくあります

• My brother says he lost his wallet on the bus this morning.

  兄が、今朝バスで財布をなくしたと言っています。

• The weather forecast says it's going to rain all weekend.

  天気予報によると、週末はずっと雨だそうです。

2. 今もまだ本当のこと — 時制をずらしても、そのままでもかまいません

• Lan said she lives in Da Nang. / Lan said she lived in Da Nang.

  ランはダナンに住んでいると言っていました。（今もそこに住んでいる → どちらも正しい）

• The receptionist told us that the pool closes at nine.

  受付の人が、プールは9時に閉まると教えてくれました。

3. ただし、もう本当ではないことや、今の実際の状況と違うことは、必ずずらします

• You said you didn't like durian, but you've eaten three pieces!

  ドリアンは好きじゃないって言ってたのに、3切れも食べたじゃない！（you don't like ではない）

別の日や別の場所で伝えるときは、時や場所を表す語も変わります。同じ日、同じ場所なら、そのままにします。

• Last week Nam said, “I'll call you tomorrow.” → Last week Nam said he would call me the next day.

  先週ナムは「明日電話するね」と言いました。→ 先週ナムは、翌日私に電話すると言いました。

• tell + 人（聞いた人を必ず言う）：She told me (that) she was busy.「told that…」や「told to me」とは言いません。
• say + (that) + 節。すぐ後ろに聞き手は置きません：She said (that) she was busy. 聞き手を言うなら say to + 人：He said to me that…（told me ほどは使いません）。
• 決まった表現：tell the truth / a lie / a story / a joke / the time、say hello / goodbye / sorry / something / no。
• その他の伝える動詞：explain (to sb) that、promise (that)、warn sb that、admit that、complain that、agree that。

• The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.

  ウェイターは、厨房はもう閉まったと私たちに言いました。

• She promised she would never be late again.

  彼女は二度と遅刻しないと約束しました。

• The guide warned us that the path was slippery.

  ガイドは、道が滑りやすいと私たちに注意しました。

伝える疑問文は平叙文の形になります：主語が動詞の前に来て、do / does / did はなくなり、疑問符もつけません。時制は同じように過去にずらします。

• 疑問詞のある疑問文：asked (+ 人) + 疑問詞 + 主語 + 動詞。
• Yes/No 疑問文：asked (+ 人) + if / whether + 主語 + 動詞。
• 依頼や命令：asked / told + 人 + (not) to + 動詞 — レッスン「動詞 + 人 + to 不定詞」を見てください。

• “Where do you live?” → She asked me where I lived.

  「どこに住んでいるの？」→ 彼女は私に、どこに住んでいるのかと尋ねました。

• “Where did you buy this jacket?” → My friend asked me where I had bought that jacket.

  「このジャケット、どこで買ったの？」→ 友達は私に、そのジャケットをどこで買ったのかと尋ねました。

• “Are you cooking?” → Mai asked if I was cooking.

  「料理してるの？」→ マイは私に、料理をしているのかと尋ねました。

• “Please wait here.” → The nurse asked us to wait there.

  「ここでお待ちください」→ 看護師は私たちに、そこで待つように言いました。

• “Don't touch it!” → He told me not to touch it.

  「触らないで！」→ 彼は私に、それに触らないように言いました。

💡Do you know where… is? のような丁寧な疑問文も平叙文の語順を使いますが、時制はずらしません — レッスン「間接疑問文」を見てください。

• ✗She said me she was hungry.

  ✓She told me she was hungry.

  say のすぐ後ろに聞き手は置けません。tell + 人 を使います。

• ✗She told that she was busy.

  ✓She said that she was busy.

  tell には必ず聞き手が必要です：told me / told him。

• ✗The waiter told to us that the kitchen was closed.

  ✓The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.

  tell + 人。to は不要です。

• ✗He asked me where was the bus station.

  ✓He asked me where the bus station was.

  伝える疑問文は平叙文の語順にします。

• ✗Nam asked me did I want to join his team.

  ✓Nam asked me if I wanted to join his team.

  Yes/No 疑問文 → if/whether を使い、did は使いません。

• ✗My boss said he will give me a day off, but he forgot.

  ✓My boss said he would give me a day off, but he forgot.

  約束は過去のことで、実現しなかった → will は would になります。
