ประโยคเล่าความ (reported speech)

Direct speech คือการยกคำพูดเดิมทุกคำมาไว้ในเครื่องหมายคำพูด Reported speech คือการเล่าแค่ความหมายโดยไม่มีเครื่องหมายคำพูด: said / told + (that) + อนุประโยค ละ that ได้ โดยเฉพาะในภาษาพูด อย่าลืมเปลี่ยนสรรพนามให้เข้ากับคนที่เล่า

• “I'm tired,” Minh said. → Minh said (that) he was tired.

  “ผมเหนื่อย” มินห์พูด → มินห์บอกว่าเขาเหนื่อย

• “I've lost my keys,” Lan told me. → Lan told me she had lost her keys.

  “ฉันทำกุญแจหาย” ลานบอกฉัน → ลานบอกฉันว่าเธอทำกุญแจหาย

เมื่อกริยาที่ใช้รายงานเป็นอดีต (said, told, asked) กริยาในอนุประโยคที่เล่ามักจะถอยไปเป็นอดีตอีกหนึ่งขั้น

Would, could, should, might, ought to และ Past Perfect คงเดิม

💡หลัง said / told ให้ถามตัวเองว่าคำพูดนั้นพูดไว้เมื่อไร ถ้าพูดในอดีตและเรื่องนั้นจบไปแล้ว ให้ถอย Tense: Minh said he was tired (ไม่ใช่: is tired)

1. กริยาที่ใช้รายงานเป็นปัจจุบัน (says, tells, has said) — มักใช้ตอนส่งต่อข้อความทันที หรือบอกสิ่งที่ใครสักคนพูดอยู่เป็นประจำ

• My brother says he lost his wallet on the bus this morning.

  พี่ชายฉันบอกว่าเขาทำกระเป๋าสตางค์หายบนรถเมล์เมื่อเช้านี้

• The weather forecast says it's going to rain all weekend.

  พยากรณ์อากาศบอกว่าฝนจะตกตลอดสุดสัปดาห์

2. ยังเป็นความจริงอยู่ในตอนนี้ — จะถอย Tense หรือไม่ถอยก็ได้

• Lan said she lives in Da Nang. / Lan said she lived in Da Nang.

  ลานบอกว่าเธออาศัยอยู่ที่ดานัง (ตอนนี้เธอยังอยู่ที่นั่น → ใช้ได้ทั้งสองแบบ)

• The receptionist told us that the pool closes at nine.

  พนักงานต้อนรับบอกเราว่าสระว่ายน้ำปิดสามทุ่ม

3. แต่ต้องถอย Tense เมื่อเรื่องนั้นไม่จริงแล้ว หรือไม่ตรงกับสถานการณ์จริงในตอนนี้

• You said you didn't like durian, but you've eaten three pieces!

  เธอบอกว่าเธอไม่ชอบทุเรียน แต่กินไปสามชิ้นแล้วนะ! (ไม่ใช่: you don't like)

ถ้าคุณเล่าต่างวันหรือต่างสถานที่ คำบอกเวลาและสถานที่ก็ต้องเปลี่ยนด้วย ถ้ายังเป็นวันเดียวกันและที่เดียวกัน ก็ใช้คำเดิม

• Last week Nam said, “I'll call you tomorrow.” → Last week Nam said he would call me the next day.

  สัปดาห์ที่แล้วนามพูดว่า “ผมจะโทรหาคุณพรุ่งนี้” → สัปดาห์ที่แล้วนามบอกว่าเขาจะโทรหาฉันในวันรุ่งขึ้น

• tell + คน (ต้องบอกว่าใครเป็นคนฟัง): She told me (that) she was busy. ไม่ใช่ “told that…” หรือ “told to me”
• say + (that) + อนุประโยค โดยไม่มีผู้ฟังตามหลังทันที: She said (that) she was busy. ถ้าจะพูดถึงผู้ฟัง ให้ใช้ say to + คน: He said to me that… (ใช้น้อยกว่า told me)
• วลีตายตัว: tell the truth / a lie / a story / a joke / the time; say hello / goodbye / sorry / something / no
• กริยารายงานอื่น ๆ: explain (to sb) that, promise (that), warn sb that, admit that, complain that, agree that

• The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.

  พนักงานเสิร์ฟบอกเราว่าครัวปิดแล้ว

• She promised she would never be late again.

  เธอสัญญาว่าจะไม่มาสายอีกแล้ว

• The guide warned us that the path was slippery.

  ไกด์เตือนเราว่าทางเดินลื่น

คำถามที่เล่าต่อจะกลายเป็นประโยคบอกเล่า: ประธานมาก่อนกริยา do / does / did หายไป ไม่มีเครื่องหมายคำถาม และยังต้องถอย Tense

• คำถาม Wh-: asked (+ คน) + คำแสดงคำถาม + ประธาน + กริยา
• คำถาม Yes/No: asked (+ คน) + if / whether + ประธาน + กริยา
• คำขอร้องและคำสั่ง: asked / told + คน + (not) to + กริยา — ดูบทเรียน “กริยา + คน + to-infinitive”

• “Where do you live?” → She asked me where I lived.

  “คุณอยู่ที่ไหน” → เธอถามฉันว่าฉันอยู่ที่ไหน

• “Where did you buy this jacket?” → My friend asked me where I had bought that jacket.

  “เธอซื้อแจ็กเก็ตตัวนี้ที่ไหน” → เพื่อนถามฉันว่าฉันซื้อแจ็กเก็ตตัวนั้นมาจากที่ไหน

• “Are you cooking?” → Mai asked if I was cooking.

  “กำลังทำอาหารอยู่เหรอ” → ไมถามว่าฉันกำลังทำอาหารอยู่หรือเปล่า

• “Please wait here.” → The nurse asked us to wait there.

  “กรุณารอตรงนี้” → พยาบาลขอให้เรารออยู่ตรงนั้น

• “Don't touch it!” → He told me not to touch it.

  “อย่าแตะนะ!” → เขาบอกฉันว่าอย่าแตะมัน

💡คำถามสุภาพอย่าง Do you know where… is? ก็ใช้ลำดับคำแบบประโยคบอกเล่าเหมือนกัน แต่ไม่ถอย Tense — ดูบทเรียน “คำถามทางอ้อม”

• ✗She said me she was hungry.

  ✓She told me she was hungry.

  say ไม่มีผู้ฟังตามหลังทันที ให้ใช้ tell + คน

• ✗She told that she was busy.

  ✓She said that she was busy.

  tell ต้องมีผู้ฟังเสมอ: told me / told him

• ✗The waiter told to us that the kitchen was closed.

  ✓The waiter told us that the kitchen was closed.

  tell + คน โดยไม่มี to

• ✗He asked me where was the bus station.

  ✓He asked me where the bus station was.

  คำถามที่เล่าต่อใช้ลำดับคำแบบประโยคบอกเล่า

• ✗Nam asked me did I want to join his team.

  ✓Nam asked me if I wanted to join his team.

  คำถาม Yes/No → if/whether โดยไม่มี did

• ✗My boss said he will give me a day off, but he forgot.

  ✓My boss said he would give me a day off, but he forgot.

  คำสัญญาอยู่ในอดีตและไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นจริง → will เปลี่ยนเป็น would
