Leçon 97 · Étape 8: Adjectifs, adverbes et prépositions
Adjectif + préposition
IntermédiaireAdjective + preposition
Forme et emploi
good at, interested in, afraid of, worried about — adjectifs avec une préposition fixe
|---|---|
| un nom | My brother is interested in history. |
| un pronom | We're really proud of you. |
| une forme en -ing | Lan is good at cooking. |
| question : préposition à la fin | What are you worried about? |
Après une préposition, le verbe est toujours à la forme en -ing (alors que le français met l'infinitif : « fatigué d'attendre ») : interested in learning, good at drawing, tired of waiting (pas in learn / at draw). Voir la leçon « Préposition + -ing ».

4.Variantes britanniques, américaines et familières
- different from convient partout ; les Britanniques disent aussi different to, et les Américains disent souvent different than.
- angry with quelqu'un est la forme britannique standard ; angry at quelqu'un est très courant en anglais américain.
- surprised / shocked / amazed at ou by sont tous les deux corrects.
- bored with est la forme standard ; bored of est très courant à l'oral.
- married to s'emploie avec be / get : She got married to a man from Hue.
