Lezione 88 · Tappa 7: Nomi, articoli e determinanti
All / every / each / whole
IntermedioForma e uso
every day vs all day, each of them, the whole book — un gruppo intero o uno per uno
1.All, every, each + sostantivo
| Sostantivo | Verbo | Esempio | |
|---|---|---|---|
| all | plurale / non numerabile | plurale / singolare | All the rooms have a balcony. |
| every | singolare | singolare | Every room has a balcony. |
| each | singolare | singolare | Each room has a balcony. |
Every student in my class has a laptop.
All the students in my class have a laptop.
(all + plurale)
Each ticket costs 100,000 dong.
Ogni biglietto costa 100.000 dong.
Ricorda: dopo every / each il sostantivo è sempre singolare, e anche il verbo: Every student has…, Each of them is… Proprio come in italiano dopo “ogni”.
2.Each o every?
Spesso vanno bene tutti e due (each time / every time), ma la sfumatura e le strutture sono diverse:
| each | every |
|---|---|
| può stare da solo; each of the / them… | non sta da solo: every one, every one of… |
| — | frequenza: every day, every ten minutes |

We each got a present (= ognuno di noi).
3.Every day o all day?
- every day / every morning / every week = più e più volte, ogni giorno / mattina / settimana: indica quanto spesso.
- all day / all morning / all week = il giorno / la mattina / la settimana intera, dall'inizio alla fine. Di solito si dice all day, senza the.
- the whole day / the whole morning = all day / all morning.
- all the time = sempre, di continuo; every time = ogni volta.
My dad reads the news every morning.
Mio padre legge le notizie ogni mattina.

Ogni volta che lo chiamo, è impegnato.
“All day” ed “every day” sono molto diversi, proprio come “tutto il giorno” e “ogni giorno”: I studied all day = dalla mattina alla sera, in un solo giorno; I study every day = ogni giorno. Non dire “all days” quando intendi every day.
4.Whole e all
whole = completo, intero. Si usa con un sostantivo numerabile singolare, con the / my / a… davanti: the whole book, my whole life, a whole pizza. Con i sostantivi non numerabili di solito si usa all, non whole: all the money, all the information. Attenzione all'ordine delle parole: the whole (the viene prima), ma all the (the viene dopo).
| whole | all |
|---|---|
| the whole day | all day |
| the whole cake | all (of) the cake |
| my whole life | all my life |
| — (di solito non con i sostantivi non numerabili) | all the money, all the information |

5.Everyone, everything e all
Però all + frase = “l'unica cosa”: All I want is…
Everyone is waiting for you outside.
Ti stanno aspettando tutti fuori.
Everything was perfect at the wedding.

Everybody brought their own food.

I tried on five dresses, and every one was too small.
