形と使い方
as if / as though + 節 — まるで〜のように
1.形
As if と as though は同じ意味で、「まるで〜のように」を表します。後ろには完全な節（主語 + 動詞）が続きます。as though のほうが少し改まった響きです。

2.いつ使うか
1. 人や物がどう見えるか・聞こえるか・感じられるかを言う — 見たり聞いたりしたことから
You look as if you haven't slept at all.
まるで一睡もしていないような顔をしていますね。
This bread smells as though it's just come out of the oven.
このパンは焼きたてのようないい匂いがします。
My legs feel as if they're made of stone.
足が石でできているみたいに重いです。
2. It looks / sounds / seems as if… — 何が起きているか推測する
It looks as if the shop is closed today.
今日はお店が閉まっているみたいです。
It seems as though nobody read my email.
誰も私のメールを読んでいないようです。
3. 人の動作のしかたを描写する
Mai walked past me as though she didn't know me.
マイは、まるで私を知らないかのように通り過ぎていきました。
He's eating as if he hasn't eaten for days.
彼はまるで何日も食べていないかのように食べています。
4. 短縮形：as if + to 不定詞 / -ing
He opened his mouth as if to say something, then stopped.
彼は何か言いたそうに口を開けましたが、やめてしまいました。
She kept looking at the door as if expecting someone.
彼女は誰かを待っているかのように、ドアのほうばかり見ていました。
5. It's not as if… =「〜というわけではない」（理由を打ち消す）
Take your time. It's not as if we're in a hurry.
ゆっくりでいいよ。別に急いでいるわけじゃないし。
3.事実か非現実か：as if の後ろの時制
as if の後ろの内容が本当かもしれないときは、実際の時に合わせたふつうの時制を使います。明らかに事実ではないときは、非現実であることを示すために時制を1つ過去にずらすことができます（仮定法過去や wish と同じ考え方です）。

She talks about London as if she lived there, but she's never been.
彼女はまるでロンドンに住んでいるかのように話しますが、一度も行ったことがありません。（事実ではない → 過去形）
My grandpa dances as if he were twenty again.
祖父はまるで二十歳に戻ったかのように踊ります。
The kitchen looked as though a storm had passed through it.
台所はまるで嵐が通り過ぎたかのようなありさまでした。（主節が過去、それより前の出来事 → had + 過去分詞）
- Were か was か？ as if の後ろでは、どの主語にも were を使うと改まった響きになります。話し言葉では was がとてもよく使われます。どちらも正しいです。
- 時制をずらすのは必須ではありません：He talks as if he owns the place も正しく、事実でなくてもごく自然な言い方です。
どこでも同じ時制のまま使ってしまう学習者が多くいます。主節の動詞が過去（looked, seemed, acted…）なら、as if の後ろの時制をずらすのを忘れずに：He looked as if he had been crying（has been crying ではない）。
4.As if、like、as のどれ？

As だけでは「まるで〜のように」の意味にはなりません。また、like と as if を組み合わせてはいけません。話し言葉では as if の代わりに like + 節 がとてもよく使われます（He acts like he owns the place）が、改まった書き言葉では as if を使いましょう。レッスン「Like と as」もあわせて見てください。
「As if!」は単独で使うくだけた感嘆表現で、「まさか、ありえない」という意味です：Do you think he'll say sorry? — As if!
5.よくある間違い
He talks like as if he knows everything.He talks as if he knows everything.
like と as if を並べて使わないでください。

as だけでは「まるで〜のように」の意味になりません。

名詞の前では like を使います。as if の後ろには節が必要です。

- He talks as if he knows everything, but he's only been here a week.
- This soup tastes as if someone has put a whole bag of salt in it.
- It feels as if this summer will never end.
- Listen to that thunder! It sounds as if a storm is coming.
