as if / as though + ประโยค — ราวกับว่า

1.รูปประโยค

As if และ as though ความหมายเหมือนกัน: “ราวกับว่า / เหมือนกับว่า” ตามด้วยอนุประโยคเต็ม (ประธาน + กริยา) as though ฟังดูทางการกว่านิดหน่อย

look / sound / feel / smell / taste + as if + อนุประโยค	You look as if you need a coffee.
It looks / sounds / seems / feels + as if + อนุประโยค	It sounds as if they're having a party.
กริยาแสดงการกระทำ + as if + อนุประโยค	He talks as if he knows everything.
as if + to-infinitive / -ing (รูปย่อ)	She nodded as if to say yes.
like + อนุประโยค (ภาษาพูดไม่เป็นทางการ)	It looks like it's going to rain.

2.ใช้เมื่อไร

1. บอกว่าคนหรือสิ่งของดู ฟัง หรือรู้สึกเป็นอย่างไร — จากสิ่งที่เห็นหรือได้ยิน

You look as if you haven't slept at all.
คุณดูเหมือนไม่ได้นอนเลย
This bread smells as though it's just come out of the oven.
ขนมปังนี้กลิ่นเหมือนเพิ่งออกจากเตาอบ
My legs feel as if they're made of stone.
ขาฉันรู้สึกเหมือนทำจากหิน

2. It looks / sounds / seems as if… — คาดเดาว่ากำลังเกิดอะไรขึ้น

It looks as if the shop is closed today.
ดูเหมือนวันนี้ร้านจะปิด
It seems as though nobody read my email.
ดูเหมือนไม่มีใครอ่านอีเมลของฉันเลย

3. บรรยายท่าทางที่คนทำอะไรบางอย่าง

Mai walked past me as though she didn't know me.
ไมเดินผ่านฉันไปราวกับไม่รู้จักฉัน
He's eating as if he hasn't eaten for days.
เขากินราวกับไม่ได้กินอะไรมาหลายวัน

4. รูปย่อ: as if + to-infinitive / -ing

He opened his mouth as if to say something, then stopped.
เขาอ้าปากเหมือนจะพูดอะไรบางอย่าง แล้วก็หยุด
She kept looking at the door as if expecting someone.
เธอเอาแต่มองไปที่ประตูราวกับรอใครอยู่

5. It's not as if… = ก็ไม่ได้…สักหน่อย (ใช้ปัดเหตุผลทิ้ง)

Take your time. It's not as if we're in a hurry.
ค่อย ๆ ทำไปเถอะ เราก็ไม่ได้รีบอะไรสักหน่อย

3.จริงหรือไม่จริง: หลัง as if ใช้ Tense อะไร

ถ้าสิ่งที่ตามหลัง as if อาจเป็นจริง ให้ใช้ Tense ปกติตามเวลาจริง ถ้าไม่จริงอย่างชัดเจน ให้ถอย Tense ไปหนึ่งขั้นได้ (เหมือนใน Conditional แบบที่ 2 และ wish) เพื่อแสดงว่าไม่จริง

สถานการณ์	Tense หลัง as if	ตัวอย่าง
อาจเป็นจริง ตอนนี้	Present	He looks as if he's ill.
อาจเป็นจริง เพิ่งเกิดขึ้น	Present Perfect	You look as if you've just woken up.
ไม่จริง ตอนนี้	Past Simple (were / was)	He talks as if he were the boss.
กริยาหลักเป็นอดีต	ถอย Tense: Past / Past Perfect	He looked as if he hadn't slept.

She talks about London as if she lived there, but she's never been.
เธอพูดถึงลอนดอนราวกับเคยอยู่ที่นั่น แต่จริง ๆ ไม่เคยไปเลย (ไม่จริง → อดีต)
My grandpa dances as if he were twenty again.
คุณปู่เต้นราวกับกลับไปอายุยี่สิบอีกครั้ง
The kitchen looked as though a storm had passed through it.
ห้องครัวดูราวกับมีพายุพัดผ่าน (กริยาหลักเป็นอดีต เหตุการณ์เกิดก่อน → had + V3)

Were หรือ was? หลัง as if ใช้ were กับทุกประธานจะฟังดูทางการกว่า ส่วน was พบบ่อยมากในภาษาพูด ถูกทั้งคู่
การถอย Tense ไม่ใช่ข้อบังคับ: He talks as if he owns the place ก็ถูกและเป็นธรรมชาติมาก แม้จะไม่จริงก็ตาม

ผู้เรียนหลายคนใช้ Tense เดิมตลอดทั้งประโยค เมื่อกริยาหลักเป็นอดีต (looked, seemed, acted…) อย่าลืมถอย Tense หลัง as if: He looked as if he had been crying (ไม่ใช่: has been crying)

4.As if, like หรือ as?

ตามด้วย	ใช้	ตัวอย่าง
คำนาม / คำสรรพนาม	like	That cloud looks like a rabbit.
อนุประโยค	as if / as though (ไม่เป็นทางการ: like)	It looks as if it's going to snow.
บทบาทหรืออาชีพจริง	as	She works as a nurse.

As คำเดียวไม่ได้แปลว่า “ราวกับว่า” และอย่าเอา like มาใช้คู่กับ as if ในภาษาพูด การใช้ like + อนุประโยค แทน as if พบบ่อยมาก (He acts like he owns the place) แต่ในงานเขียนทางการให้ใช้ as if ดูเพิ่มเติมในบทเรียน “Like กับ as”

“As if!” ที่พูดเดี่ยว ๆ เป็นคำอุทานไม่เป็นทางการ แปลว่า “ไม่มีทางหรอก ฝันไปเถอะ”: Do you think he'll say sorry? — As if!

5.ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
