During과 while
중급During vs while
|---|---|---|---|
| during | 명사 (the film, the night, my holiday) | 언제? | I fell asleep during the film. |
| I fell asleep while I was watching the film. |
| for | 시간의 길이 (two hours, three days) | 얼마 동안? | I slept for two hours. |
있으면 → while. 명사만 있으면 → during.
2.During + 명사
My phone rang twice during the meeting.
Someone knocked on the door during the night.
Most shops in our street close during Tet.
Nobody said a word during the whole trip.
자주 쓰는 표현: during the day / the night / the summer / the week / the war / the 1990s / my stay / the lesson / the meal.
3.While + 절
Linh listens to podcasts while she cooks.
Could you hold my coffee while I find my keys?
Someone stole my bag while I was waiting for the train.
While we were having dinner, the power went out.
Can you water my plants while I'm away?
(while I will be away가 아님)
I'll do the shopping while you're at the dentist.
Please don't use your phone while driving.
She hurt her back while lifting a heavy box.
My brother loves football, while I prefer badminton.
4.For일까 during일까?
길이를 잴 때는 during을 쓰지 않습니다: “I waited during two hours”가 아닙니다.
We went to Phu Quoc for five days during the summer holidays.
(for = 얼마 동안, during = 언제)
It rained for three hours during the night.

(while + 절)
I learned to cook during my time in Osaka.
(during + 명사)
During the last two weeks는 맞는 표현입니다. “the last two weeks”는 특정한 기간이지 “얼마 동안?” I've been sick for two weeks.

뒤에 절이 옴 → while.
