“would rather” / “had better”
중급“Would rather” / “had better”
1.had better —
부정은 had better not + 동사.

You'd better (= You had better) go now. |
You'd better not tell anyone. |
Hadn't we better call a taxi? |
It's going to rain. You'd better take an umbrella.
We'd better leave now, or we'll miss the train.
You'd better not be late for the interview.
'd better의 'd = had, 'd rather의 'd = would입니다. 빠르고 편한 대화에서는 'd를 빼고 말하기도 합니다(“You better go”) — 이건 구어체이니, 글에서는 'd better나 had better를 쓰세요.
2.had better일까, should일까?
(You'd better pay me back!). 상사나 윗사람에게는 should나 “Maybe you could…”
You should read more English books.
The exam is tomorrow. You'd better go to bed early.
3.would rather — 선호
would rather ('d rather) + 동사원형(to 없음) = 특정 상황에서 차라리 ~하고 싶다. 부정은 would rather not + 동사.
I'd rather stay in tonight. I'm really tired.
I'd rather walk than take a taxi.
Would you rather have tea or coffee?
Shall we go to karaoke? — I'd rather not.
4.would rather +
I'd rather you didn't smoke in the car.
My parents would rather I studied medicine.
Shall I call him now? — I'd rather you waited until tomorrow.
