Orações temporais no futuro

Intermédio

Future time clauses

Forma e uso

when / as soon as / until + presente, … will — o presente depois dessas palavras, com sentido de futuro

1.A estrutura

I'll call youwhen I get home.
We're going to leaveas soon as the rain stops.
Please wait hereuntil I come back.
Let's buy some snacksbefore the film starts.
She'll feel betterafter she gets some rest.

  • When I get home, I'll call you.

  • I'll call you when I get home.

Eu te ligo quando chegar em casa. (oração temporal depois — sem vírgula)

Em português usamos o futuro do subjuntivo nessas orações (“quando eu chegar”, “assim que ela terminar”), e muita gente traduz isso como will: “when I will get home”. Em inglês, o futuro fica só na oração principal; a parte com when / as soon as / until… fica no presente simples: when I get home.

2.Conectivos comuns

PalavraSignificadoExemplo
whenno momento em queI'll tell her when I see her.
as soon aslogo que, assim queText me as soon as you land.
afterdepois queWe'll go for a walk after we eat.
beforeantes queTurn off the lights before you leave.
until / tillaté queI'll stay here until you're ready.
whileenquantoI'll cook while you set the table.
oncedepois que, assim queOnce you try it, you'll love it.
by the timeaté o momento em que, no máximo atéBy the time we get there, the shop will be closed.

  • I won't buy a new phone until this one stops working.

  • Don't open the oven until the cake is ready.

  • I'll lend you this book when I've finished it.

  • When I see Minh, I'll give him your message.

  • You can watch TV after you've done your homework.

  • I'll read a book while I'm waiting for you.

Vou ler um livro enquanto espero você. (presente contínuo)

Com after e as soon as, o presente simples e o present perfect geralmente significam a mesma coisa: after I finish = after I've finished.

4.When ou if?

  • I'll call you when I get to the hotel.

Eu te ligo quando chegar ao hotel. (tenho certeza de que vou chegar)

  • I'll call you if I get lost.

Eu te ligo se eu me perder. (posso me perder ou não)

  • When the shop opens, I'll buy some bread.

Quando a loja abrir, vou comprar pão. (ela com certeza vai abrir)

  • If the shop is still open, I'll buy some bread.

Se a loja ainda estiver aberta, vou comprar pão. (não tenho certeza de que está aberta)

Para escolher entre when e if, pergunte a si mesmo: tenho certeza de que vai acontecer? “I'll let you know when I get the results” (os resultados com certeza vão sair).

  • When will you be back?

Quando você volta? (uma pergunta — will)

  • I don't know when she'll arrive.

Não sei quando ela vai chegar. (objeto de know — will)

  • Tell me when you arrive.

Me avise quando você chegar. (oração temporal — presente)

  • Tell me when you'll arrive.

Me diga quando você vai chegar. (perguntando a que horas — will)

6.Erros comuns

  • I'll call you when I will arrive.

I'll call you when I arrive.

Use o presente numa oração temporal, e não will.

  • As soon as she will finish, we'll leave.

As soon as she finishes, we'll leave.

  • We won't start until he will come.

We won't start until he comes.

Depois de until, use o presente simples.

  • When he get home, I'll tell him.

When he gets home, I'll tell him.

Continua sendo presente simples, então he/she/it precisa de -s.

  • After I'll finish work, I'm going to the gym.

After I finish work, I'm going to the gym.

Seja qual for a oração principal, a oração com after fica no presente.

  • I'll lend you the book when I will have read it.

I'll lend you the book when I've read it.

Para mostrar “terminado”, use o present perfect, e não will have.

Exemplos

  • I'll send you the photos when I get home.
  • As soon as the rain stops, we'll go out.
  • I'll wait here until you come back.
  • I'll text you as soon as I land in Đà Nẵng.
