Le frasi temporali al futuro
IntermedioFuture time clauses
Forma e uso
when / as soon as / until + presente, … will — dopo queste parole il presente ha valore di futuro
| Frase principale | Congiunzione + frase temporale (presente) |
|---|---|
| I'll call you | when I get home. |
| We're going to leave | as soon as the rain stops. |
| Please wait here | until I come back. |
| Let's buy some snacks | before the film starts. |
| She'll feel better | after she gets some rest. |
When I get home, I'll call you.
Quando arrivo a casa, ti chiamo. (frase temporale prima: virgola)
I'll call you when I get home.
Ti chiamo quando arrivo a casa. (frase temporale dopo: niente virgola)
In italiano spesso si usa il futuro in tutte e due le parti (“quando arriverò a casa, ti chiamerò”), e così molti dicono “when I will get home”. In inglese il futuro va solo nella frase principale; la parte con when / as soon as / until… resta al present simple: when I get home.
2.Le congiunzioni più comuni
| Parola | Significato | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| when | quando, nel momento in cui | I'll tell her when I see her. |
| as soon as | appena, non appena | Text me as soon as you land. |
| after | dopo che | We'll go for a walk after we eat. |
| before | prima che | Turn off the lights before you leave. |
| until / till | finché (non), fino a quando | I'll stay here until you're ready. |
| while | mentre | I'll cook while you set the table. |
| once | una volta che, appena | Once you try it, you'll love it. |
| by the time | entro il momento in cui, quando ormai | By the time we get there, the shop will be closed. |
I won't buy a new phone until this one stops working.
Don't open the oven until the cake is ready.
Basta non usare will.
I'll lend you this book when I've finished it.
When I see Minh, I'll give him your message.
You can watch TV after you've done your homework.
I'll read a book while I'm waiting for you.
Leggerò un libro mentre ti aspetto. (present continuous)
Con after e as soon as, present simple e present perfect di solito hanno lo stesso significato: after I finish = after I've finished.
4.When o if?
Entrambi usano il presente per il futuro, ma il significato è diverso: when = sei sicuro che succederà, è solo questione di tempo; if = può succedere oppure no. Vedi anche la lezione “Frasi condizionali”.
I'll call you when I get to the hotel.
Ti chiamo quando arrivo in albergo. (sono sicuro che ci arriverò)
I'll call you if I get lost.
When the shop opens, I'll buy some bread.
Quando apre il negozio, compro il pane. (aprirà di sicuro)
If the shop is still open, I'll buy some bread.
“I'll let you know when I get the results” (i risultati arriveranno di sicuro). “Call me if there's a problem” (può anche darsi che non ci siano problemi).
5.Quando dopo when si usa ancora will
Quando when apre una domanda, o quando la frase con when è il complemento oggetto di un verbo (dopo know, ask, tell me, wonder…) e significa “a che ora / quando”, si usa will normalmente.
When will you be back?
Quando torni? (una domanda: will)
I don't know when she'll arrive.
Non so quando arriverà. (oggetto di know: will)
Tell me when you arrive.
Avvisami quando arrivi. (frase temporale: presente)
Tell me when you'll arrive.
Dimmi quando arriverai. (chiedo a che ora: will)
6.Errori comuni
I'll call you when I will arrive.I'll call you when I arrive.
As soon as she will finish, we'll leave. As soon as she finishes, we'll leave.
Dopo as soon as si usa il present simple.
We won't start until he will come.We won't start until he comes.
Dopo until si usa il present simple.
When he get home, I'll tell him. When he gets home, I'll tell him.
È sempre present simple, quindi con he/she/it serve la -s.
After I'll finish work, I'm going to the gym. After I finish work, I'm going to the gym.
I'll lend you the book when I will have read it.I'll lend you the book when I've read it.
Per indicare “concluso” usa il present perfect, non will have.
