“Be supposed to / about to / likely to”
be supposed/about/likely to + กริยา — ความคาดหวัง กำลังจะเกิด หรือความน่าจะเป็น
วลีเหล่านี้มีรูปแบบเดียวกัน: be + supposed / about / likely / due / bound + to + กริยารูปเดิม โดย be เปลี่ยนตามประธานและ Tense (am / is / are / was / were) ถ้าเป็นปฏิเสธ ให้วาง not หลัง be
|---|---|---|
| be supposed to | สิ่งที่กฎ แผน หรือคนอื่นบอกไว้ | You're supposed to take off your shoes here. |
| be about to | กำลังจะเกิดขึ้นในอีกไม่กี่อึดใจ | The film is about to start. |
| be likely to | น่าจะเกิดขึ้น | It's likely to rain tonight. |
| be due to | มีกำหนดไว้ในเวลาหนึ่ง | The train is due to arrive at 9:40. |
| be bound to | เกิดขึ้นแน่นอน | You're bound to pass — you've worked so hard. |
2.Be supposed to
You're supposed to wear a helmet on a motorbike.

be meant to ใกล้เคียงกับ be supposed to (กฎ จุดประสงค์) และใช้บ่อยมากในภาษาอังกฤษแบบบริติช: You're not meant to park here. This app is meant to save you time.
3.Supposed to หรือ should
should = คำแนะนำหรือความเห็นของผู้พูดเอง ส่วน be supposed to = กฎหรือความคาดหวังจากภายนอก มักสื่อว่าความจริงไม่เป็นอย่างนั้น ถ้าจะตำหนิสิ่งที่ไม่ได้ทำ ใช้ should have + V3 (ดูบทเรียน “Modal + have + V3”)
You should try the egg coffee — it's great.
You're supposed to pay before you eat here.

The flight was supposed to leave at 8.
4.Be about to — ในอีกไม่ช้า
be about to = บางอย่างจะเกิดขึ้นเร็ว ๆ นี้มาก ภายในไม่กี่วินาทีหรือไม่กี่นาที ปกติไม่ใช้กับคำบอกเวลา (ไม่ใช่ about to … tomorrow) was / were about to = กำลังจะทำอะไรพอดีตอนที่มีอีกเรื่องเกิดขึ้น

5.Likely to, due to, bound to
- be likely to = น่าจะเกิดขึ้น ปฏิเสธ: be unlikely to หรือ not likely to ภาษาอังกฤษแบบอเมริกันมักพูดว่า “He'll likely win” ด้วย ส่วนแบบบริติชนิยม “He's likely to win” หรือ “He'll probably win”
- be due to + กริยา = มีกำหนดไว้ในเวลาหนึ่ง อย่าสับสนกับ due to + คำนาม = เนื่องจาก: The game was cancelled due to the rain.
