1. ต่างกันมาก: much, a lot, far — much ใช้ได้ทุกระดับภาษา a lot เป็นกันเองและใช้บ่อยมากในภาษาพูด far หนักแน่นกว่า ในภาษาพูดแบบกันเองมาก ๆ (โดยเฉพาะอเมริกัน) ยังใช้ way ด้วย: way better

• Hanoi is much colder than Ho Chi Minh City in January.

• Living in the city is far more expensive than living in my village.

4. ใช้กับคำนาม: much more / many more / a few more — much more + คำนามนับไม่ได้ many more + คำนามพหูพจน์ ส่วน a lot more ใช้ได้ทั้งสองแบบ ถ้าเป็นจำนวนน้อย: a bit more + คำนามนับไม่ได้ a few more + คำนามพหูพจน์

การพูดขั้นกว่าซ้ำ (-er and -er, more and more + คำคุณศัพท์) หมายถึงมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปเรื่อย ๆ Any + ขั้นกว่า ใช้ในประโยคคำถามและปฏิเสธ ส่วน no + ขั้นกว่า แปลว่า “ไม่ได้…กว่าเลย” รูปแบบ “ยิ่ง… ยิ่ง…” มีบทเรียนของตัวเอง: ดู “The more …, the more …”

  อากาศร้อนขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ
