I was watching the news last night and all the problems in a lot of the French cities.

In France, a lot of people, a lot of demonstrators are on the street.

Demonstrators and rioters, two interesting words, right?

A demonstrator is a person who goes onto the street to demand better education, better salary, better housing.

A rioter is a person who goes onto the street to steal, to break into shops.

It was so bad in France that

President Macron went onto national TV to make a statement to say that things are really bad,

but the rioters were going to pay for their crimes.

And it got me thinking about responsibility, being responsible.

And I think when we're learning English, we have to be responsible, right?

Responsible to ourselves, but responsible to others.

You're responsible to yourself because you have to have a goal, get a plan and follow it if you want to make progress.

But you're also, you have a responsibility to others because you're going to share your ideas, your thoughts with others.

You're going to make a contribution with your English.

So you have a responsibility to do that as best as possible to other people.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is not a huge responsibility,

but I think if you want to make good progress in English, be responsible.

Don't be like the casseurs, don't be like the rioters, trying to steal things, a quick fix and steal little bits and pieces there.

Be in it for the long haul.

Be responsible learning English.
