2
Feels a little weird to say that.
3
I actually had a little episode I wanted to share with you today.
4
It reminded me of something important, and so I thought maybe it could be a reminder for you as well.
5
So the other day, Pudding got quite upset over something.
6
I tried to stay calm, and I did prevent myself from getting angrier, you know, kind of attacking her for her tantrum.
7
But because it lasted so long and I couldn't really help her through it,
8
I started getting frustrated with myself and upset and doubting everything I knew.
9
I had these beliefs about parenting and kind of the things that I value.
10
But sometimes when it doesn't work out, you start wondering if you're doing the right thing, which is the hard thing about parenting.
11

22
and I catch kind of the leaves blowing in the wind on the trees.
23
And all of a sudden, I feel space in my mind.
24
What was filled with emotion and tears and craziness just kind of, it was like the wind outside kind of blew them away.

26
and have a conversation with Pudding about what had happened and kind of clear our understanding.

and we were able to share that and kind of get through it

31
and I remembered what had happened to me a few days earlier
32
and so instead of really trying to like convince her
33
that it's okay which we tend to do I think we try to talk our kids through it
34
and when they're emotional they're not in the capacity to listen
35
so instead of trying to talk her through it
36
and be like it's okay just said come with me
37
and we went over to the window we looked outside I was like oh look outside do you see
38
that lady standing and waiting for the bus what shirt is she wearing
39
and I started to just notice things
40
and we talk about it I'd be like did you see
41
that arch over there it looks like a rainbow doesn't it
42
and as I gave her a few of those observations she started observing a few things too
43
and she started talking about it I could see

that she now had space in her mind to think clearly
45
and I had actually told her about the experience that I had and I was like next time you get upset.
46
Maybe we should try that.
47
And so she knew that she was doing what I had done a couple days ago.

52
so wrapped up in what's in front of us and we forget to look out.
53

54
And to get a bigger picture, I think it's very easy for us to get lost and stuck in the now,
55
in the present, in the problem, in our feelings.
56
And when you get stuck there and you try to work your way through it, sometimes it doesn't work as well.
57

61
It's the weekend.
62
We need to go out and have fun.
63
What am I doing getting so upset about this?
64

66
I didn't think I'd be able to use it so quickly a couple of days later with pudding.
67
And it was so cool to see that it worked for her too.
68
You know, if you guys ever have a moment where you feel like you're just stuck there looking out
69
