“Be used to” + -ing

Be used to + שם עצם / כינוי גוף / -ing אומר שאתם מכירים משהו: זה כבר לא חדש או מוזר עבורכם. Get used to אומר להתרגל — כלומר, המעבר ממוזר לנורמלי.

💡ה-to כאן היא מילת יחס (preposition), לא ה-to של אינפיניטיב. לכן תמיד יבוא אחריה שם עצם או -ing: I'm used to getting up early (לא: used to get up).

Be משתנה לפי זמן כמו תמיד: am/is/are used to (עכשיו), was/were used to (אז), will be used to (בעתיד).

• I've lived in Hanoi for years, so I'm used to the traffic.

  אני גר בהאנוי כבר שנים, אז אני רגיל לתנועה.

• My brother is a chef, so he's used to standing all day.

  אח שלי שף, אז הוא רגיל לעמוד כל היום.

• When I first came to Saigon, I wasn't used to the heat.

  כשהגעתי לסייגון בפעם הראשונה, לא הייתי רגיל לחום.

• Are you used to working from home yet?

  התרגלתם כבר לעבוד מהבית?

• Teachers are used to being asked the same question again and again.

  מורים רגילים ששואלים אותם את אותה שאלה שוב ושוב.

Get used to עובד בכל הזמנים ולעיתים קרובות מופיע עם soon, slowly, still, it took me a while… כדי להראות כמה זמן לוקח להתרגל. בזמן הווה מושלם, באנגלית בריטית אומרים have got used to, ובאמריקאית לרוב have gotten used to. Become used to גם נכון אך רשמי יותר.

• Don't worry — you'll soon get used to the food here.

  אל תדאגו — תתרגלו לאוכל כאן בקרוב.

• I'm slowly getting used to my new keyboard.

  אני לאט לאט מתרגל למקלדת החדשה שלי.

• It took me a month to get used to working nights.

  לקח לי חודש להתרגל לעבוד בלילות.

• Have you got used to your new glasses yet?

  התרגלתם כבר למשקפיים החדשים שלכם?

• My uncle lived in Germany for ten years, but he never got used to the dark winters.

  הדוד שלי גר בגרמניה עשר שנים, אבל הוא אף פעם לא התרגל לחורפים החשוכים.

כשמישהו אחר עושה את הפעולה, שמים את האדם בין to ל--ing: be / get used to + אדם + -ing. כינוי גוף לוקח את צורת המושא: me, him, her, us, them.

• I'm used to working late.

  אני עובד מאוחר

• I'm used to him working late.

  הוא עובד מאוחר

• My kids aren't used to me cooking dinner.

  הילדים שלי לא רגילים שאני מבשלת ארוחת ערב.

• You'll soon get used to your neighbours singing karaoke.

  עוד מעט תתרגל לכך שהשכנים שלך שרים קריוקי.

• ✗I'm used to he snoring.

  ✓I'm used to him snoring.

  אחרי to משתמשים בצורת המושא (him).

• ✗She's used to people stare at her.

  ✓She's used to people staring at her.

  הפועל אחרי האדם עדיין ב-ing.

שלושת אלה דומים במראה אבל המשמעות שלהם שונה מאוד. בדקו אם יש be/get לפני, ואם בא אחריהם base form או -ing. ראו גם את השיעור “Used to”.

• I used to drink coffee with sugar, but now I don't.

  פעם הייתי שותה קפה עם סוכר, אבל עכשיו כבר לא.

• I'm used to drinking coffee without sugar now.

  עכשיו אני רגיל לשתות קפה בלי סוכר.

💡לומדים לעיתים שוכחים את be ואומרים “I used to the noise” — זה לא נכון. רגיל עכשיו = I'm used to the noise. רק הרגל בעבר (“עשיתי את זה פעם”) זה I used to + verb.

שימו לב למשמעות רביעית: be used to + base form יכולה להיות גם סביל של הפועל use (משהו משמש למטרה): Wood is used to make paper. כאן used נהגה /juːzd/; ב-used to (הרגל בעבר) ו-be used to (רגיל) זה /juːst/.

• ✗I'm used to work late at night.

  ✓I'm used to working late at night.

  Be used to + -ing, לא base form.

• ✗He isn't use to the heat yet.

  ✓He isn't used to the heat yet.

  תמיד משתמשים ב-used, עם d בסוף.

• ✗I've lived in Sydney for two years, so I used to driving on the left.

  ✓…so I'm used to driving on the left.

  להווה צריך be: I'm used to.

• ✗I'm using to the traffic now.

  ✓I'm used to the traffic now.

  לעולם לא משתמשים ב-using במבנה הזה.

• ✗It took me a while to get used with the new software.

  ✓It took me a while to get used to the new software.

  מילת היחס היא תמיד to.

• ✗She's getting used to live alone.

  ✓She's getting used to living alone.

  גם Get used to לוקח -ing.
