“the more …, the more …”
The more …, the more …”
(Form)
|---|---|---|
| छोटा विशेषण / क्रियाविशेषण + -er | The older I get, | the calmer I feel. |
| more / less + लंबा विशेषण | The more popular a restaurant is, | the longer you wait. |
| more / less / fewer + संज्ञा | The more friends you invite, | the more food we'll need. |
| अकेला more / less | The more I listen to this song, | the less I like it. |
| अनियमित comparative | The further you live from work, | the earlier you have to get up. |
से कहते हैं — कोई article नहीं होता, इसलिए सीखने वाले अक्सर the छोड़ देते हैं, खासकर पहले हिस्से में (“More you sleep, the better…”)।
The more you practise, the easier it gets.
The longer we waited, the angrier the customers got.
The less you spend now, the more you'll have for the trip.
The more time kids spend on screens, the fewer books they read.
The bigger the room, the higher the rent.
(= the bigger the room is, the higher the rent is)
When do you need it? — The sooner the better.
Can I bring my cousin? — Sure, the more the merrier!
- पूरा comparative वाक्यांश — उसके साथ जुड़े विशेषण या संज्ञा समेत — the के ठीक बाद, अपने हिस्से की शुरुआत में आता है: the more comfortable I feel (the more I feel comfortable नहीं), the more mistakes I make।
- छोटे विशेषणों में -er जुड़ता है, more नहीं: the harder, the cheaper, the busier (the more hard नहीं)। अनियमित रूप: good → better, bad → worse, far → further / farther, much / many → more, little → less। पाठ “Comparatives” देखें।
- comparative लगाएँ, superlative नहीं: the more…, the most…
The more you practise, the better you'll speak (the more you will practise नहीं)।
- be के साथ क्रम कर्ता + be रखें, या be हटा दें: the more expensive the ticket (is)। आज की रोज़मर्रा की अंग्रेज़ी में इसे पलटकर “the more expensive is the ticket” न कहें।
The more tired I get, the more mistakes I make.
The more you practise, the better you'll speak.
Present Simple)
The more I got to know her, the more I liked her.
4.“more and more” से अलग
Comparative + and + comparative (busier and busier, more and more expensive) The …, the …
Hanoi is getting busier and busier.
More and more people are working from home.
The busier Hanoi gets, the more I miss my quiet hometown.
एक चीज़ समय के साथ बदल रही है → -er and -er / more and more। ।
More you sleep, the better you feel. The more you sleep, the better you feel.
The more I study, the more better I understand. The more I study, the better I understand.
The longer I live here, the more I feel comfortable. The longer I live here, the more comfortable I feel.
The more hard you work, the more you earn. The harder you work, the more you earn.
The most I travel, the more I learn about myself. The more I travel, the more I learn about myself.
comparative लगाएँ, superlative नहीं।
The more you will practise, the better you will speak. The more you practise, the better you'll speak.
- The more you read, the better your English gets.
- The harder you work, the luckier you get.
- The faster you drive, the more petrol you use.
- The earlier we leave, the less traffic there will be.
