ฝึกพูดภาษาอังกฤษด้วยเทคนิค Shadowing จากวิดีโอ: The Book of Tea

กำลังสร้างบทเรียน...
1
The Japanese tea ceremony sounds wonderful, but utterly removed from normal daily life.
2
It's exotic, perfect and noble, while we are condemned to scamper about from one lowly and dreary task to another.
3
But this is the opposite of the therapeutic lesson Kakuzo Okakura, the author of The Book of Tea, is longing to impart to us.
4
Because as he sees it, anything can be, as it were, tea.
5
Okakura was born in Yokohama in 1862, less than a decade after the Japanese elite elected to reconnect with the West after centuries of seclusion.
6
Okakura was an accomplished student at the newly established Tokyo University
7
and was quickly appointed a curator at the recently founded Imperial Museum of the Arts.
8
In 1904, when Okakura was in his early 40s, he moved to the US to take up a post at the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
9
He loved socialising but was saddened by how his otherwise cultivated friends misunderstood Japanese art and philosophy,
10
which he saw as intimately linked.
11
And so he quickly wrote in English and published in 1906 an extremely charming little book
12
to explain what he saw as a central concern of Japanese culture.
13
The secret and fascination, as he often heard it called,
14
of the tea ceremony turns out to have little or nothing to do with tea itself in his eyes.
15
It's not a way of revering a special beverage.
16
It's almost irrelevant that the ceremony involves a hot drink.
17
What matters for Okakura are the rituals that happen to grow up around tea drinking.
18
But actually, any simple thing could become the focus for endless meaning and focus.
19
One waits patiently as the water boils, notices the wisps of steam and appreciates the implements and the sounds.
20
The ceremony, as Okakura describes it, is calm, people are served according to a special order.
21
The room in which it takes place is small, almost humble, but tranquil and spotlessly clean.
22
But ultimately it's It's an attitude that Okakura wants to convey.
23
What he is in love with and wants to make us fall in love with in turn is a sensitivity to detail, a liking for solid, well-made,
24
everyday things, an avoidance of complexity or haste, a devotion to a moment in time.
25
But the same attitude could be cultivated in other areas.
26
Flowers can be arranged in the same spirit.
27
One can notice each stem, care about the spaces between them, take time to appreciate them and concentrate solely on their silent loveliness.
28
But again, this is not because flowers are special.
29
What's special is the way something is done, thoughtfully, beautifully, simply, and without a sense of what will come next.
30
One is concentrated on now, rather than preoccupied with what may or may not happen in the future.
31
What Okakura wants us to take away is that more or less anything can be done in this spirit.
32
One could have a tea ceremony-like approach to driving or cooking, or indeed to brushing one's teeth, pushing exactly the ideal amount of paste out of the tube,
33
learning to appreciate perhaps a slightly granular texture or silky consistency, holding the brush neither too stiffly nor too loosely,
34
conscious of the intricate sensations, aware that this moment is now and that now is part of forever.
35
It's never an activity in itself that is either banal or spiritual.
36
This is Okakura's enduring lesson of his Book of Tea.
37
It's only our approach, our way of doing it, that makes something either special or trivial.
38
We should, with Okakura as our guide, learn to re-find the magic in the ordinary.
