as if / as though + clause — איך משהו נראה או מרגיש

1.צורה

As if ו-as though משמעותם זהה: "בצורה שמרמזת על". אחריהם בא משפט מלא (נושא + פועל). as though נשמע מעט יותר רשמי.

2.מתי להשתמש בזה

1. לתאר איך מישהו או משהו נראה, נשמע או מרגיש — לפי מה שאפשר לראות או לשמוע

You look as if you haven't slept at all.
אתם נראים כאילו לא ישנתם בכלל.
This bread smells as though it's just come out of the oven.
הלחם הזה מריח כאילו הרגע יצא מהתנור.
My legs feel as if they're made of stone.
הרגליים שלי מרגישות כאילו הן עשויות מאבן.

2. It looks / sounds / seems as if… — לנחש מה קורה

It looks as if the shop is closed today.
נראה שהחנות סגורה היום.
It seems as though nobody read my email.
נראה כאילו אף אחד לא קרא את המייל שלי.

3. לתאר את הדרך שבה מישהו עושה משהו

Mai walked past me as though she didn't know me.
מאי עברה לידי כאילו היא לא מכירה אותי.
He's eating as if he hasn't eaten for days.
הוא אוכל כאילו לא אכל כמה ימים.

4. צורות מקוצרות: as if + to-infinitive / -ing

He opened his mouth as if to say something, then stopped.
הוא פתח את הפה כאילו רצה לומר משהו, ואז עצר.
She kept looking at the door as if expecting someone.
היא המשיכה להסתכל על הדלת כאילו היא מצפה למישהו.

5. It's not as if… = זה לא נכון ש… (דחיית סיבה)

Take your time. It's not as if we're in a hurry.
קחו את הזמן. זה לא כאילו אנחנו ממהרים.

3.אמיתי או לא אמיתי: איזה זמן אחרי as if

אם הרעיון אחרי as if יכול להיות נכון, השתמשו בזמן הרגיל של התקופה האמיתית. אם זה ברור שלא נכון, אפשר להחזיר את הזמן צעד אחד אחורה (כמו במשפטי תנאי סוג שני או משאלות) כדי להראות שזה לא אמיתי.

הפועל הראשי בעבר	backshift: past / past perfect	He looked as if he hadn't slept.

She talks about London as if she lived there, but she's never been.
היא מדברת על לונדון כאילו היא גרה שם, אבל היא אף פעם לא הייתה.
My grandpa dances as if he were twenty again.
הסבא שלי רוקד כאילו הוא שוב בן עשרים.
The kitchen looked as though a storm had passed through it.
המטבח נראה כאילו סערה עברה בו.

Were או was? אחרי as if, were לכל הנושאים נשמע יותר רשמי; was מאוד נפוץ בדיבור. שתי האפשרויות נכונות.
אין חובה להחזיר את הזמן לאחור: He talks as if he owns the place גם נכון וטבעי, אפילו כשזה לא נכון.

הרבה לומדים שומרים על אותו זמן בכל המשפט. כשפועל עיקרי הוא בעבר (looked, seemed, acted…), יש לזכור להחזיר את הזמן אחרי as if: He looked as if he had been crying (לא: has been crying).

4.As if, like או as?

משפט	as if / as though (לא רשמי: like)	It looks as if it's going to snow.
תפקיד או מקצוע אמיתי	as	She works as a nurse.

As בפני עצמו לא אומר "as if", ואין לשלב like עם as if. בדיבור, מאוד נפוץ להשתמש ב-like + משפט במקום as if (He acts like he owns the place), אבל בכתיבה רשמית עדיף להשתמש ב-as if. ראו גם את השיעור "Like vs as".

"As if!" בפני עצמו הוא ביטוי לא רשמי שפירושו "אין מצב, זה לא יקרה": אתם חושבים שהוא יתנצל? — As if!

5.Look + שם תואר, ו-like עם עבר לא אמיתי

אחרי look (ו-sound, feel, smell, taste), הבחירה תלויה במה שבא אחר כך. שם תואר בא ישר אחרי הפועל, בלי like ובלי as if.

הזמן שזז אחורה לרעיון לא אמיתי שייך ל-as if / as though. עם like הלא רשמי, הדוברים בדרך כלל נשארים בהווה: He acts like he owns the place. אפשר לשמוע like + עבר בדיבור יומיומי, אבל באנגלית זהירה משתמשים ב-as if, במיוחד עם were.
